I need a headache cure. Finally had an argument with my teacher today that being told exactly what to do and how to do it is not really 'helping to find my personal creative expression' and I think she got the point, but I'm not positive. She said at one point she'd have to find me a book that would 'help me' with this 'block' I had, which is kind of funny because last night I was hanging out in Barnes&Noble (as I do) and read the beginning of quite a wonderful book by a wonderful photographer, who stressed that creativity was its own force, and that while it could be learned and cultivated, the 'rules' that some people throw around are not at all the way to do it. If I had an extra $50 I would have bought it, and maybe I should anyway, and loan it to my teacher 
I'm rambling and incomprehensible, I know. I need a nap or a damn good replacement.

Library copy? Way cheaper than purchasing. You can always go back and buy it some day when you're flush. Or put it on your wish list.

I'm boiling water, and don't want to burn it. Pasta will go in soon. I'm cooking up a chicken fest. Chicken and mango (Indian spices) in the dutch oven with rice, baked chicken to add grapes and make salad sandwiches, and chicken and mushroom in a cream sauce for the pasta. (Big tray of chicken breast...)

Yes, I can write a book report or a paper. Writing an interesting story with a plot and characters you are *supposed* to love/hate/laugh at is not an innate skill set for everyone. Style can also evade many of us. (Think of a book you hated. Case in point.)
You are the daughter of an author, and have no doubt been surrounded by good literature and immersed in quality work. It may well be true that for you, this class is a waste of time and merely fills a requisite hole in your curriculum, but the poor sap next to you may be having revelation after awakening after amazing shift of perspective.
Or not. It could just suck for everyone.

Hahaha, I heard a story of a woman who went back to college in her fifties and has been battling her teacher, who says science fiction is not literature and she can't write her science fiction story. She's doing it anyway, because the class curriculum states that as long as she shows up and turns something in, he can't fail her.
As for the designy class, I'm pretty much just going to do what I do and rely on my brilliance to carry me through, whether it's exactly what they asked me for or not [/sig]
