Glee 2nd episode

Okay . . . I don't wanna say it, but it hasta be said.

Watched the 2nd episode of Glee on Wednesday after a couple months of anticipation. The pilot was great. I mean an awesome intro to what could be a great show about a bunch of quirky kids trying to get by in a school where they're the least popular bunch. Not to mention great use of music.

And what did we get the second episode? Nothing but lots of sex references, raunchy inuendo and music that was just so-so. I was pretty disappointed. Here I kinda thought it would be appropriate for a family show, but that was sure something I wouldn't want my kids to watch.

*sigh*

Ah well . . . I'll give it a few more episodes to find it's groove, but right now I'm very leery.

yea, after the pilot this one was a big let down, and it may have been because i was watching online but the lip syncing was terrible

Its hard to gauge the kid-friendliness of this show. First off, it's creator is the same guy who created FX's Nip Tuck, which is full of affairs, drug abuse, lying and copious amounts of grotesque plastic surgery. Secondly, Fox does not have a 'late night' slot. As in how most networks have more mature shows fill their 10pm slot as to avoid young ones watching more adult material (Fox really doesn;t seem to give a shit about where their adult content falls at all, as they've had Prison Break, who has a major character who is a murderous pedophile, on Mondays at 8). Finally Glee has a very bright, glossy production style, making it look bubblegum and sound bubblegum. A couple of other shows have done this, but at the same time have slipped in more adult themes which is what Glee seems to do.

I liked the second episode. I understand people being upset about the amount of sex brought up in the show, but I thought it was actually handled well. On the Will and Emma front it was good to not only see their compatibility, but also have Emma be very level headed about her crush. Instead of just fawning over him and becoming a home wrecker like so many other shows would have her do, she approaches the situation head on and makes Will aware of what they're doing too. It keeps the potential of relationship between them from being bogged down with the added drama and overall bad juju of having it start out as an affair.

Secondly, Rachel's adorable with her absolutely woobie sadface. A total drama queen, a little naive, but adorable none the less. Her falling for her leading man is very believable and high school, as well as her brief stint as a bulimia girl. She goes against the status quo and takes flack for that by those that keep the order of the caste system (Quinn and the Cheerios, the Football players and their slushies). She has a lot of gumption, but just like any other girl she's insecure about her looks and how a boy may or may not notice her. While I'm not saying that her trying to throw up is a good thing, it's a real thing.

I got more of the negativity towards those running the Celibacy Club than the actual theory and practice of celibacy itself. The Cheerios were using it as a way to control their boyfriends and taunting the crap out of the poor guys, therein' making their use of it flawed. While Rachel opposed Celibacy itself and talked about contraceptives, I really was proud of her. What the Cheerios were doing was a joke, and Rachel saw that and told them the facts. Thus making sex not just something that was purely a desire of the guys (and their poor, teased, libidos) but making it known that it's a desire of the opposite gender as well and making both the girls and the boys equal. It was no longer a 'keep the guys in check' thing, it was a 'us' thing which was what resonated with Finn.

I liked the fact that they didn't just slowly build Rachel and Finn up. Rachel is far too driven and proactive to allow that to happen. She's very much in her own little broadway world, having totally built up a fantasy of her making it b

I'm surprised you thought it would be kid friendly after watching the pilot.

Well, the pilot certainly wasn't nearly as raunchy as the 2nd episode. Not by a long shot.
