Yeah, stupid toast measurement at the range Tuesday. Zero distance is a tad over 1028 slices.

Thanx guys.

About seven or eight years ago, one of my friends used the term "hung like a toaster" for reasons that remain unknown to me. But of course my other friends all took the term and ran with it, and 'getting toast' became some kind of elaborate code for sex. There was the dough, which was the kissing, and the bread, which was the making out, and crust was clothes, and toast was like third base, and French toast was like home base, and more things I only vaguely followed were built upon the terms of toast, and breakfast in general became a rather ridiculous fun giggle-fest.
To this day, that's the first thing to pop into my head at the mention of toast.
(I giggled like mad at the toaster in Red Dwarf)

Well, I have jumped rooms and jumped back again, debated for at least an hour over which clothes should come with me, trying to get it narrowed down to semi-reasonable levels, I've packed my carry-on, and having been warned that the airline with the best rates this particular year is notorious for losing luggage I'm now debating whether I should even check another bag or if I should leave the liquids at home. Toast??? How about raising a toast...

To my spectacularly bad luck...

Today is Rose's B-day. Back in April, I saw that Chicago was the concert at the Champlain Valley Fair on her birthday. We both like Chicago... no brainer.

I order the tickets to the tune of $130 and they arrive a week later. I gave them to Rose for safe keeping.

I'm sure you can see where this is going. Tore the house apart trying to find the tickets today. Gone... poof. Probably thrown out mistakenly in one of the house cleaning sprees.

And since the State is now disputing my Unemployment status and I got a whopping 14 hours last week...

I can't even afford to take Rose out for dinner at McDonalds, let alone a real restaurant as a "Consolation prize" for her Birthday.

Just shoot me now...

Briglad... we really don't care about expensive presents and nice stuff. Sure it' enjoyable anyone likes them, but if you want to truly wow her for her birthday...write her a long letter. Tell her about the day you first met, little moments you remember form your time together, a few times when you've been really struck by how you feel or how beautiful she is, and tell her how she makes your life better.... that will be prized more than anything she could get. She will keep that and read and re -read that until the paper is so faded and creased only she knows what the words say...

A concert for her birthday is kinda a tradition for us... Rose's birthday always falls around the start of the fair and we go see a concert if someone we like is playing. We've seen Meatloaf, Cindi Lauper, Journey, Peter Frampton, Styx, REO Speedwagon...

We send little notes back and forth all the time. Since Rose's Cancer, Her dad's Stroke (He can't be left alone for more than an hour or so) and my employment problems... we don't get to go out much anymore. Last time we could swing a trip to the movies was last summer for Iron Man. We might be able to manage dinner out somewhere cheap like Denny's once every couple of months.

Just a disappointment. No blame either. We were both looking forward to this all summer. Even got Rose's cousin to come over and Dad sit for tonight...

Excuse me while I go rearrange the breakables room...

Oh, we care, we care... but we can live without it if you can make us go all melty.
Raid the local park for wildflowers you picked yourself (also good are deserted lots, plenty of wildflowers blooming right now), give us a nice foot rub, oodles of noodles by candlelight, read to us, dance us around the house, take a walk around a nice park with a water feature at sunset/rise (if it won't get us mugged), whatever.

Or just get us drunk and shag us silly. That works too! (Okay, maybe not for everyone.

Strange how things work out....

Rose had been saving a bunch of money because her minivan needed some work done before the state inspection ran out. She thought it expired Monday night...

She forgot that her Van has a 10 inspection sticker. It's still good until the last day of October.

To celebrate, both not having to shell out $500 this week on her Van and her birthday, we went out for Chinese food and shopping therapy.

Might not have been a good concert anyway. It's been raining all day and it's an outdoor venue. Would have come home tired, miserable and wet. Most likely coming down with something in the process.

Might run over to the fair on Friday just to walk around as we'll be in the area for one of her doctors appointments. Gotta get some really bad for you fair food...

So he felt compelled to kick me repeatedly until I got up this morning to eat..

So my father has been told numerous times that bedtime is 9pm. While I appreciate his picking my son up when I'm working late, believe me, I still cannot help but become aggreived when it is nearing 10pm, I've been calling since I got home at 8 with no reply, and I now find out that they're at a ballgame and it's the top of the 9th. Couldja just fucking call and let me know where the hell you are with my kid an hour past his betime?!! I still have to get him up in the morning so I can be to work by 8am (late, three days out of the week I am dropping him off at 7am.)

Now he's not going to be in bed until almost 11pm! I have to wake him up no later than 6:45 to get us both out the door and me to work on time.

Thanks Dad! I appreciate you listening the last ten or fifteen times I've explained this to you.

......why?

You don't even know what this will mean for Marvel Entertainment; I doubt anyone really does.

More importantly, Disney isn't all Poly-fucking-anna. They made some great and creepy films, such as Something Wicked This Way Comes, Tron, the POTC movies, the National Treasure movies, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and the list goes on. Not to mention they're currently doing a new Alice In Wonderland with Tim Burton, which looks absolutely deliciously insane. So with Disney's other ventures that have nothing to do with that fucking cartoon mouse, why is their acquisition of Marvel Entertainment so awful? Why would you need to burn the place down and starting over, when Disney, of all companies, is one of the few to actually support new stories? If anything, it could be a tremendous benefit to Marvel....

[rant]I just read yet another article about some whinging ponce who created a petition to demand a formal apology from the British government. See, over 50 years ago, they did something absolutely horrific to a man who did something absolutely fantastic for his country and for the world. Yep. They fucked him over in a most monstrous way. But it happened over FIFTY FUCKING YEARS AGO. No one responsible for the atrocity against this man is alive, and if they are, they certainly are not in the government anymore. The man himself died a couple years after this atrocity happened to him. So what the fuck? What's an "official apology" going to do aside from making the petition creating fuckstick and all the whiney bints who sign it feeeeeeeel better? Srsly. What's the point of all these apologies?? They're all hollow and meaningless; no one who perpetrated the transgressions is alive; none of the victims are alive; no one alive cares, unless they stand to get some money out of it; no one making the apology today cares. These are all just hollow, pointless, attention getting bullshit. It's a disgrace to the memory of those who suffered, and it cheapens every single honest, heart-felt, sincere apology ever issued.

"Whaaaaaa!!! Someone you that you don't know did something you didn't know about to someone else you don't know way back before you or your mom or your gramma or you great-gramma existed!! And ZOMG!!!1one it may have been someone distantly related to you through marriages twice removed cousins and they did something to someone who may have been distantly related to me through adoption!!! I demandz apologeeeeeeeeee (and cash, benefits, etc.) from youuuuuuu!"

Oh, shut the fuck up.

Afternoon all,

how we all doing?

Rushing round like a lunatic, work busy, have another OU assignment in end of this week but just come off a bank holiday, managed to sneak a couple of hours out with other half for a picnic and a walk at a national trust place.

Sorry to hear that baby is kicking you round the place MsA but sounds like he's getting you used to the run around.

My bass players wife is expecting in about two weeks.

I don't know what to make of the Disney thing as not enough info, one of those modern business with fingers in more pies than you expect so probably no practical difference to how marvel runs and with the popularity of Superhero movies why wouldn't a business with large film interests not be interested in strengthening ties to source material? We'll see...

Me, I'm gonna keep myself going though this week with hope that the audition that's lined up for Sunday yields a vocalist who stay for a bit and we actually gig (it's been like three years FFS!).

I might cheer myself up by signing up for my next couple of OU courses, nice ten credit job to keep my hand in through Nov/Dec until next and final maths module lands next year!

(Shoves a tub of pure Stickyooeygooey at FLT)

Knock yourself out.

I had to attempt a daring rescue last night. (Okay, not really that dramatic.. but I was tired and irritated.)

My father called at about 9:15 to say he'd lost his keys somewhere on a ride at the State Fair. He and boychild were downtown (in a not that great to be in after dark part of downtown.) and was wondering if I'd be willing to pick them up.

Sonofa...

I'd been nodding off after a busy day and was waiting for them to come home so I could go to bed. I hopped in the car, drove down to get them (narrowly avoiding some idiot who decided to try running DIRECTLY AT MY CAR, luckily he was in a white t-shirt so I saw him coming and was able to swerve into the oncoming lane.) Then finally found them and drove dad home. He said no, he didn't have a spare key, but he'd just climb through a window. No, he was sure he didn't want me to wait around to make sure he got in. So I then had the joy of driving home and trying to stay awake. It was getting close towards the end, but we made it safely. (About 10:45 now).

If he had just checked his pockets at any point before getting on the bus to go back downtown where he'd parked he could have called me much earlier, and maybe even gone back and hunted for his keys. Or if he'd just been willing to cough up the $7 for all day parking he would have possibly checked his pockets before exiting the fairgrounds. (Maybe)

So I'm awake now at 8:30, but still tired. (AHA! The coffee pot just made the "I'm done" gurgle!)

(Rummages around for a mug to put a cup of The Good Stuff in stasis just in case something's gone terribly wrong with the RL coffee.)

Great Lakes = great food! (Okay, so the barbecue you need to go South for, mostly... but still!)

Cabot's sharpest cheddars are my FAVORITE large-ish produced varieties. (We've got some awesome small-time producers around here.) Much as I'd love to continue the NY/VT cheese and maple rivalries, it's like wine. Depends on the cows and the years, but both states are consistently excellent.

Ben & Jerry's are teh awesome. We've got good ice cream stands here, but B&J have spread the goodness to the far corners of the world! (Ptooey on air filled, shrunk, crap ice cream. Ptooey I say!)

Burlington is ice cream Mecca!

Five of us managed to finish a half Vermonster once. Oh, how full we were! (That works out to 3 scoops each plus toppings. Burp.)

We should exchange microbrews. Middle Ages from here for ... well, I remember Magic Hat being good..

CT also has some good brew.

AAAHHH!!! We're talking about food and bevvies again.

I'll just finish my coffee and figure out which cake to bake for Doctroid's return. (Teh hubster is still in VA on an experiment. Delayed a week due to a busted compressor.) Boychild's helping pick out the recipe.

Tullamore Dew is a whiskey.

I had heard of it in the past, then I heard a song about it and decided to try it in an Irish pub here on Tipperary Hill. I have now purchased a bottle which I cracked open last night and removed about two fingers worth.

It's not quite the same when you're drinking it and testing your hot fudge sauce as it cooks, but it was still lovely.

Much better with soda bread, Beef O'Flaherty, and a pint of Guinness to keep it company. (Beef O'Flaherty is a large amount of thinly sliced roast beef set over a little bread in a casserole dish and smothered in blue cheese. Mmmmmmm)

Happy Labor Day! Hopefully nobody here has to work, that kind of being the point of the whole day. I'm torn between ethics and addiction. Jo-Ann's is having a big sale today, but that means that the bastards are making their staff come in and work today. Do I hit the sale, or do I stay home as a matter of principle? (I almost feel guilty not spending money because I know sales are probably down and me going nuts would actually help them keep their jobs the rest of the year.)

It's a picklement and a puzzler.

Plus there was some gorgeous silk in the home dec department I was drooling over six months ago and it would be half off if it's still there. Not that I need more fabric, it's just that I have a certain problem with it.
My husband got me a mug. It reads "Fabric Acquisition Team: One bolt at a time".

I'm going to drink my coffee now and decide if I'm making pancakes or french toast or...
I could always ask boychild for his input, but I'm afraid of the word "waffles" coming up. I don't want to have to clean the waffle iron. I know it's silly of me, and it's not like it's that hard or that much effort, but it's a mental block. "Oh crap, not WAFFLES! I'll have to clean that damned iron." (Like the cast iron skillet I love to use is any less work..)

People is silly.
