JMHO,...I 'think' Jericho may have gotten caught cheating,....maybe??? Or they all decide it was below them to continue, who knows?
That's pretty funny.

Lookin' at the new totals over there, I can't help but remember 'back in the day' when we could generate more legitimate votes in a day than anybody but Firefly has as a total right now.
Ah well. (cue John Mellankamp's 'Glory Days')

Well FT, you and I know that when Ray left people who thought cheating was okay and encouraged it were running this thread, and lots of people, (me included) stopped posting and voting. I would rather just have fun and help FF/S get a little more attention.
voted on the others I missed earlier......:)

Star Wars 142 34.1%

Babylon 5 88 23.2%
Moving right along, legitimately. Lovin' it.

Actually, www.moviespeople.com/top-movies.html can be "hacked" using the multiple proxies approach, but no one seems to be doing that. Except, maybe, Lucy Lawless fans.
Yeah, I tried it once, just to see if they had any defense against proxies (is there any?)

Still voting at Moviepeoples. We are staying ahead and it's great.

Except for the Summer vote. That damn Lawless woman again.

FillyGirl - True, true. Once TVVote closed down, it took the wind from our sails.
For those that are too new here (and several have been here for a while now, but are still new enough) to remember the epic battle that was TVVote (follow the Previous Thread links far enough & you'll find start finding charts & graphs. Once you find 'em, go back another two years or so...). TVVote is the best poll to have been operated to date. Rich (site operator) had the poll locked down tight. Rules violations were dealt with as quickly as he found them (votes didn't get counted, ip's got banned, etc.). He updated the poll numbers once a day, and then only after he'd reviewed them to scrub for cheaters.
We Browncoats are a small, highly motivated, and dare I say honorable group that are willing to take on all comers in any contest that requires fanaticism vs ability to cheat a given system. There have been some dark times during which there was no place for folk like us to move about at all (all available polls were easily hacked), and many regulars have become less so.Quote:

One of the counter measures I'm familiar with is scrubbing the ip addresses that are being voted from. If you consistently get the same addresses coming in in the same order, it's a hack. I'm sure that there are others, but Rich never divulged them to me.

Hear ye, hear ye!
The first post in the thread strikes me as being a bit... much.
I'm thinking perhaps create a "Place holder thread" that will contain all of the many & various links to PlacesToVote (that will be linked to in every "new" thread), and using the first post in the thread to hold only the active, minimal cheating, multiple vote thread(s) (moviespeople for now).
Changes will be made at the opening of the next new thread (close to 100 posts on this one).
Thoughts?

Seems reasonable, although keeping a few of the most vital links in that first message would be useful.

In my brief experience with the proxy cheat, I found it to be very time consuming and frustrating (not all proxies work with all sites). You could probably automate to some degree, but you are still dealing with an unstable environment (the free proxy IPs come and go, and are not always available.)
If you automated it, you could have it operate in a somewhat random schedule. Although, over time, a pattern analysis detection routine would eventually catch it (along with some false positives, some people can be very predictable as well.)
There's one Browncoat apparently using it at TVTally. I haven't really seen it anywhere else (at least not on a big scale.)It's all too time consuming for me, and I suspect, most people as well. The several who were using it for Jericho at TVTally appear to have given up (or just got tired out.)
