Come now, what would Star Trek be without Captain Kirk/Shatner? You have to admit he was the right man for the job...and still is, though obviously he's my second favorite captain, since Mal is, and most likely will always be, first in my little fangirl heart. )

Wow. I'd be embarrassed to tell you how long it's been since I attended a convention, so I'm not up on the various policies and practices. But Leonard Nimoy? Does he need to do that? I thought he had a few irons in the fire. Elvira (bless her little raven head), the surviving cast of The Munsters, etc. I can understand, but Nimoy? I mean, it's certainly his prerogative...but also kinda disillusioning.
Hey, Jong - if The Shat is charging, be sure to try to talk him down. He'd respect that.
WASHn, This was at MegaCon in Orlando in April. Nimoy was a "special guest", but was only there for one day for a few hours over the 3 day event. I have really never waited in line for anyone before for more than 15 minutes; for Nimoy I waited 90 minutes. He looked a bit old & tired, but he had a lot of supporting helpers with him. He was there to promote the new Trek movie that was coming out in May, and when I was in front of him it definitely felt special. All the other media guests there including Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin, Julie Benz, Clare Kramer, Jonathan Frakes, etc. were there for all 3 days, and they gut it out for each long day, meeting and greeting their fans. But Nimoy was treated like sci-fi royalty and likely deservedly so. His personalized autograph pics went for 3 times the price that almost all charge, but I still felt it was worth it. Funny thing is I have signed pics from all the original cast now except Shatner!, and I'm not going to DC this year.

First of all sorry if I came off a little ruff with the Shat thing, my apologies. I do really enjoy Mr. Shatner, he was the right actor for the role of Captain Kirk. The cast were all the right actors for the parts they played. Guess one needs to walk in another person’s shoes for a while to understand their emotions and what they’ve been through. I was disappointed in the comments that he’s made in the past.
Anyhoo, I’m glad that he is attending a convention that maybe many browncoats will be able to attend. I believe the Shat Man has moved on and understands that Star Trek is what it is, people love it and can’t help that they do. Almost like Firefly, it was beyond it’s time.
I was lucky enough to come across Trekkies2 again last night on dish tv. Man let me say that the browncoats can really identify with those people (Trekkers) ! I certainly know what they are feeling and the browncoat family is something in and of it’s own self.
While Star Trek may have promoted brother/sisterhood and unity in the verse as maybe it’s message I feel Firefly promotes family. That tight little quarters with nine people aboard ( all from different backgrounds) leaning to travel along and get along and care for one another, well it’s message just spoke more to me.
Anyhow, I am glad that Shat is going to the con and now understands what an impact ( how special) that beautiful, comedic tv series was.

Bill Shatner wrote a book called "Get A Life"
where he basically apologizes for not appreciating the value of the Trek fandom.
Of course, coming from Bill Shatner, its a little odd and a little over-the-top,
but I believe it is meant to be a sincere reconciliation for those put off by his SNL "get a life" skit and Galaxy Quest behavior.
I think Shatner should make a good guest and some of his anecdotes are the highlights of his Trek experience books.
