Personally, I'll be lining up for Patrick Stewart. (And James Marsters, of course...) Sorry, Kirk old boy.

Has anyone seen Trekiess2? ( not sure of the spelling)
My sister is a trek fan through and through. I would never try to convince her that FF is better, although she really liked the series. Now, Shattner going to a convention? I thought he was all about “ Hey Trekees, get a life!” What…….is he now thinking that Star Trek was his bread and butter? Paid his bills when he needed a paycheck?
Oooooh, how time fly’s and actors become the people they try to distance themselves from ( check out Galaxy Quest)

Meeting Shatner would be a blast! You could likely have a lot of fun with him with the few minutes you get at his table. Hope he doesn't over-charge for signed autographs like Leonard Nimoy did this year.

I don't think Shatner was trying to slam Trekkies; I think he was having a little fun, poking fun at them, and at himself as well.
Shatner is a terrible actor. He knows this. He knows full well that we've been laughing at him alll these years - and he's been laughing at us while we've been doing it. Why? Because HE is the one who gets to laugh all the way to the bank!
The man's a genius. There's no other way to put it. He's a terrible actor, but I watch him. He's a terrible "singer", but I buy his albums. "Has-been" is pure gold, of the comedy variet on one level, but the songs are also good on their own.

Ditto all that! Though in recent years, I flatter myself to think that I'm laughing with him. And yes, Has Been is a righteous offering! Seeing him do just about anything anymore (from PriceLine to Boston Legal) gives me this twisted warm feeling inside. And then I grin. Like this:

For m'self, I think maybe there was an element of sincerity in his "get a life" screed some years back, but I think (or at least like to think) that he shortly came to a different understanding/appreciation of the whole phenomenon...and one not entirely tied to his pocketbook. Or maybe I'm just goofy. Like this:

LONG LIVE OUR OTHER CAPTAIN! (Well, he's one of mine, anyway.)

Still...what would Rorschach do?

Wow. I'd be embarrassed to tell you how long it's been since I attended a convention, so I'm not up on the various policies and practices. But Leonard Nimoy? Does he need to do that? I thought he had a few irons in the fire. Elvira (bless her little raven head), the surviving cast of The Munsters, etc. I can understand, but Nimoy? I mean, it's certainly his prerogative...but also kinda disillusioning.
Hey, Jong - if The Shat is charging, be sure to try to talk him down. He'd respect that.

I'm not a fan of Shatner. I grew up watching Star Trek movies (not the Original Series) and he never grew on me.
I am, however, a big Nimoy fan. And I am sooooo looking forward to seeing him at D*C. So the first thing I thought when I saw Shatner's name is, "I hope they don't lump him together with Nimoy for the Q&A."
Honestly, I would love to sit through a full hour of 100% Nimoy without his "sidekick". Just my opinion.
Ironically, I got a chance to hear Phil Weyland speak at FarpointCon in Baltimore. He has been Shatner's double for years and is a fantastic speaker. In his "Q&A", he basically told production & industry stories for an hour. I didn't want it to end after the hour was up. If you ever get a chance to see him, definitely go.
So, to sum up -- Nimoy, YES, Weyland, YES, Shatner, not-so-much.
