I agree. The Borg episode, and the Klingon origin story were totally uncalled for. There were quite a few more ill-conceived ideas that fell flat. I just kind of smiled, ignored them, and moved on.

The original. Not just great plot line, but with their budget they did a fine job of special effects.
Enterprise. I enjoyed the first two seasons. The drama was better, because the captain didn't just say "Make it so," and the problem was solved.
The Next Generation. I felt a lot of their problems were dealt with by a lot of techno babel.
But they would suddenly come up with a great story when they left technology behind and delt with more personal conflicts.
Voyager. Very much the same as The Next Generation. Leave the techno babel alone and stick with human nature and you had an excellent episode.
Deep Space Nine. It started out great and then went into so many directions. I guess that is what happens when you park in front of a wormhole.

Pretty much like them in the order they came out :
1. Original Series - favorites are City On The Edge Of Forever; Bread And Circuses
2. Next Generation - favorites are The Inner Light; All Good Things
3. Deep Space Nine - favorite is Through The Looking Glass-Shatterred Mirror arc.
4. Voyager - favorites are Year Of Hell; End Game
5. Enterprise....I liked Season 3's story arc and Season 4's Through A Mirror Darkly is maybe the single best episode of any of them.
6. The Animated Series (1973-1974) I really like most of these, especially How Sharper Than A Serpent's Tooth, and Beyond The Farthest Star.

1-Deep Space Nine. Great range of characters, interesting stories, and as close as you can get to NON-Star Trek in a Star Trek series. (I'm a Star Wars/Firefly fan; my interest in any Trek is only to fill the time while waiting for better sci fi).
2-Enterprise. A bit too "nice" at times, but again, a solid cast, and many excellent story ideas. As a non-Trek fan, the continuity details don't trouble me, but I can see how they'd be bothersome to others. Personally, I think Enterprise gets a really but rap, especially the final season, which (except for the terrifyingly bad finale) was generally quite excellent.
3-Next Generation. So many enjoyable episodes... but so many other episodes that just seem to be the same story over and over again. The saving graces of the series, to me, are anything with Picard and Q arguing, and anything with Riker and Worf running amok shooting things. (So kudos for capturing both cerebral and shoot-'em-up action). On the downside, I think it was too forumlaic.
4-The Original Series. I give a lot of credit to this old buzzard for changing the way we view science fiction, but it's dated, and even at it's best, it's cheesy to the point of laughable. Often better as a drinking game than as a show.
5-Voyager. Despite being a non-Trek fan, I managed to watch all the other shows at various points (DS9, I think, was the only one I watched from beginning to end), but I could not accomplish that feat with Voyager. And I kept trying. Every season, sometimes twice a season, I'd tune in and try to get into it, but it never worked. On the surface, the concept seems compelling, the HoloDoc was cool, and of course there's 7-of-9... but the product as a whole: oh-so-meh.

1. Star Trek: TOS. The original is where it all started, and has always had the best characters.
2. Deep Space Nine. The series that TPTB ignored. Which is why it often had the darkest stories, and was certainly the most character driven. It also had a huge ensemble cast.
3. Star Trek: TNG. Proof lightning can strike twice. Started rough, but overall the most constantly good series of the franchise.
4. Enterprise. Overall, this series was a disappointment. The show just felt like more of the same. Like Voyager before it, it was another example of Star Trek taking itself too seriously, and forgetting exploration should be fun too! The last season saved the show from being a total write off. The last episode was horrible though!
5. Voyager. A total clunker. I loved that a Star Trek series finally had a female captain, but it's such a shame she commanded such a dull crew. The cast was the worst of any series. The stories were even more disappointing. This series and Enterprise, represent everything that went wrong with Star Trek. Dark sets, stand alone stories, and the same old formula that was sucking the life out of the fanbase!
I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.
