Schiff really gets is.
The dynamic between them was interesting though. It sort of highlights the deliberate ignorance gripping the federal government.

Lawrence O'Donnell came off as a complete jerk.

Oh, can we just move this partisan bickering to the paintball arena?
As for the "plan" this is way too late. The scheme he is talking about has already been put into action, foiled, unfoiled, foiled again, unfoiled again, and none of this has happened anywhere but China. The Saudis can't monopolize gold by buying a corporation, because A) there are huge gold stockpiles, and B) the gold belongs to countries, and a mining company only has "rights" which will be revoked if someone is using those rights to crash the world economy.
But the situation is far worse than it appears. Americans have already abandoned the dollar, it's only the little guy, shmucks like us, who still have the sinking thing, and the plan to set the panda as the new world currency has all sorts of problems, above and beyond acceptance of the rather absurd idea.
The fact is, a stable currency represents productivity. The RMB by itself, without the Panda, is already the world's strongest currency and likely to remain so unless it loses ground to the Rupee (Oh, this may sound silly, but just wait.) The reality is that China, with it's Gold=all cash on Earth plan is meaningless if India is producing more.
I'm not going into the several known problems with the plan if it *is* implemented, I think that Dr. Paul already shredded this idea, but just add a couple choice comments: "I can see no reason why any world power would want to hand control of the global economy to South Africa." Actually, there are a few other major gold producers, but they are all fairly silly choices for world rulers, and the point is "at least 80% of extant gold is still underground and belongs to those nation states." But I'll leave this one with a quote, and I can't remember whether this was Buffet who said this, but "I can think of nothing so useless to the world economy as gold. It is dug out of a hole in Africa, moved under high security to another hole in the ground, where it is then buried. I can't see how this benefits world productivity." Or words to that effect.
Edit: It sounds like Schiff gets the healthcare problem, but the interviewer is an ass.
This is no mystery guys: Unmanaged healthcare systems are at work all over the world, and successful at delivering a higher quality of care for a fraction of the cost.

Your barebones Nike cost more now than Air Jordans used to.
And the average Chinese person can't afford to pay anything close to what Americans pay for Nikes.
Fuck Nike.
