No, you might be thinking of Farscape, which is in the scifi genre, but a very different show.

I wonder if perhaps our credulity and goodwill are not being toyed with. But I do think that Firescape would be a great title for some kind of parody/mash-up type deal.

Some ancestor of Mal's runs into an ancestor of John's. Can you imagine the arguments between the crews as they both are trying to hide from the authorities. And the authorities are chasing after a young girl who can make wormholes with her brain.

Hell, one of the portfolio scripts I'm (glacially) working on can be described as "Firefly does Farscape" (essentially replacing John and Farscape 1 [and Moya] with a rough-and-tumble crew of entirely-human scoundrels on their own ship).
