Just to add. I am an Irish woman, with no exotic ancestry that I am aware of, and I have very black hair and very pale skin. Unfortunately,I still dont look anything like Summer, but some of us do have that coloring.
As mentioned earlier in the thread, there is a popular belief that sailors from the Spanish Armada brought the black-hair gene to Ireland, and certainly there tends to be a hub of black-haired folks around harbor cities.

petite??? "Petite" to me means less than 5 ft. tall. Summer is 5'6". If she were to walk through a mall in China, she would tower over the majority of the women.
I'd say it's her round face, high forehead and eyes, but when I heard about her last name being German I definitely believe that she IS German, especially since I know several Germans who do look a bit asian, considering that round faces and high foreheads are also rather stereotypically "German"

Go back far enough ,and there is no "pure" anything-everyone comes from somewhere else.
My Dad was born in Portugal,but his family is form all over the Med(Sicily,Tuscany,Cavi in Corsica,Basque region of Spain).Mom is Irish(from the Six).
Lots Of Indian(Native American variety) folks have ancestry from Northern Asia via th eberring Strait.Eastern European,Russian?Another can of ethnic/racial seasoning mix.
Beyond a general description,or for historical context;I'd say none of it matters....put me in the "Summer Glau is classified as Very Very Pretty".
Hell, were there any "other than beautiful women in Joss Whedon's work(outside of that scary old bat that wanted to shoot Mal in the pilot?)

Who cares where her ancestors are from; She's a lovely girl (as far as I can tell) and a very beautiful and talented actress/dancer.
ps: hispanic means of or derived from Spain or the spanish (so the term is sometimes missused on Central or S. American people who have no Spanish ancestry)
pps: another thing, not all spanish have dark hair, dark eyes and a tanned or dark complexion; I should know, I'm spanish with light brown hair (used to be blond when I was little), green eyes and skin pale as a sheet. The dark complexion comes from the invading Islamic Moors and the inmigrating Jews before that. Previous to them Spain had been invaded by Nordic and Germanic tribes like Goths, Vikings, Celts, Suebi, Alanos,etc; and even the Romans where all blond and light complexion.

Meh, I kinda figured with a surname like "Glau" she'd have at least SOME German or Austrian in her... or maybe she'd like to. ;)
