heres an idea all uk browncoats should consider,
we all know how uk released dates of films are all ways screwed around here in the uk for example Hellboy ..april in america/ september in the uk and now to my point if serenity's release date is messed around, a gang of britshbrowncoats should group together and go to the release of serenity in america in april next year.how many of us uk fans are gonna be if are release date is months after april 22nd in america.

if there is a significant difference between the uk and us release then i'll be downloading it to get my fix, and then head off to the cinema for a showing or two when it finally arrives here.

if there is a big difference in the dates it is released I would definately consider a trip to America for the release

Me too. I was hoping Joss would work something into the deal with universal but that may have been pushing an already sweet deal, just something for example like the matrix: Revolutions did it was released all over the world at exactly the same time everywhere but I guess that while joss holds some sway that he doesn’t hold enough to do that...well yet anyway. But although I would 'love' a trip to the U.S.A I’m a very poor student and while going isn’t totally absurd (cos you know I could save) I think I’ll opt for the far more cheaper d/l and then a couple of thousand times in the cinema.

that sounds like a grand idea... Needn't be tooo costly either.

Don't know about you, but aside from the torture of having to wait for months, it'd be a problem trying to avoid all the movie talk so that you could watch it fresh and unspoilt by spoilers.

So, fly over and watch it in the US, and then fly back and watch it again (and again) months later in the UK. Sounds like a plan.

Thats a good point it will be difficult enough avoiding spoilers before the film is released in America but once it it released there it would be pretty much impossible to avoid spoilers without doing something extreme like avoiding every firefly site. I think in the next couple of months a few of us should price everything up and if we can get a low enough overall cost we might be able to make this happen. How good would it be to be on a plane to America surrounded by browncoats.

despite having made my afore-posted, umm, post, i'd be interested to see the results of such an investigation. the concept of hauling myself over the pond to a u.s. premiere aint entirely unappealing :)

Anybody know just WHY there tends to be such a difference in release dates?
My only idea is so that stars can attend premieres in different countries - and it would be shiney if we could turn up in London (or better still, Manchester - MUCH more central!!) to see the BDH at a premiere of the BDM.

But a difference of a few days would still allow that to be possible - fly the stars over here, rather than lots of us needing to go over there!

Films that are mostly British, but are expected to do well in America (like Harry Potter) open at about the same time in both countries.

I suspect the reasoning between the time difference is one of these commercial ones that got the series cancelled in the first place. Bleh.

In part that's true - sad to report but we Browncoats cannot make the movie a huge success alone, and the studio will need some crossover appeal. Premieres get column inches.

Another factor is those darn funny tongues people speak over here - hard to justify flying the stars to Europe and not doing all those premieres at the same time - means the dubbing needs doing.

As hinted at above by some naughty people

, the closer global releases are intended to stop the impact of piracy, but againt that's more a factor for those "big" films (that said, Finding Nemo had a huge release gap).

And sometimes, just sometimes, its because they don't know whether the film will have the impact they are hoping, and they rework the marketing outside the US.
