What were people's thoughts? Personally, I thought it was BRILLIANT. It may be a much shorter season, although with slightly longer episodes, but the quality of it has certainly been turned up a notch. Never a dull moment. Still funny, still dramatic, and we got insight into some pasts.

I cannot wait for tomorrow's installment!

(Oh, and DVD already available for preorder on Amazon .. it comes out Monday!!)

I have always been a big fan of Doctor Who so I eagerly awaited Torchwood when it first appeared but in all honesty I stopped watching after the third episode as I didn't think much too it.

But it kept nagging at my brain so I went back to it and found that I really liked it by about half way through the first season and the second season was even better.

Children Of Earth was excellent stuff. Intriguing, exciting, funny - everything you could want.
And the closing line from the children was a brilliant cliffhanger alone, never mind the situations we leave the others in.

Really looking forward to the othe episodes and I think that this show will work over a week especially as it appears the story will cover five days as well.

Great stuff.

I too think Children of Earth is the best so far. My friend and I were talking, and we gave last night's episode a 9 out of 10 and tonight's an 8. Seriously good stuff. I really cannot wait for tomorrow ..

I've really enjoyed it so far, especially the interactions with the main characters' families. It took two seasons to do it, but I think now they've really found their footing show-wise. Eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Talk about radical cast clean-out (bearing in mind that they killed off two regulars at the end of series 2!) - although I suspect that Jack going walkabout at the end is probably setting him up for a last reunion with the Doctor.

Finally, Torchwood raises itself above "Doctor Who with sex and swearing" and works out how to produce an adult" show by making the story just that little bit more disturbing and violent.

Not perfect - it felt a bit padded in places and could probably have been done in a 3-parter. However, the shock at Jack's Big Terrible Decision was an effective way of sweetening (bittering?) the pill of the inevitable fortuitous technological solution.

Plus, I can live without seeing John Barrowman's butt crack (I know some people would differ).

Oh, and I make that 4 British Prime Ministers (and one US president) that Russel T Davies has deposed and/or killed so far. Is he trying to tell us something?

Anybody else get the feeling that the "Lois" character might have originally been written for Martha's sister?

I actually did feel like Lois could of been related to Martha, though I prefer the actress who plays Lois over Martha, neither are special but I always found Martha a little on the annoying side especially when she started shouting almost made me want to put my hands on my ears.

I love Torchwood, easily one of my favourite shows. First season was fresh but perhaps it tried a little too hard to be adult and cool but by the second season they found the perfect balance and my God the third season

Children of Earth is so sad for many reasons (won't say cause of spoilers) but at the same time the writing was top notch, the best it has ever been in any British sci-fi show & dare I say it...American too.

Torchwood has been the only show to make me cry (films have done it a few times but never a show), once in the second season (you know at the end of season 2) & in the fourth episode of Season 3 a few days ago & then on top of this to create such powerful scenes and themes and then make them really dig into you is something I have virtually never seen in a show let alone a film before. And of course it still keeps its humour but I feel Children of Earth toned down a bit of the adult content though hardly all of it (still got some violence, blood, jokes, etc) and created even more adult themes in this season although not necessarily adult more serious points and themes, a lot more dark throughout.

I actually thought Children of Men is what Serenity is to Firefly, a bit darker, more finely tuned in the writing department, and overall better made but there is just something about the original (Firefly, Season 1 & 2 of Torchwood) which makes it your favourite. Capt Jack in Children of Earth you could compare to our very own Capt. Mal, in Firefly and S1 & S2 of Torchwood they are lighter, a little more fun but still dark characters but in Serenity & Children of Earth they have been made how they were originally intended, darker characters (although not 100%)

Amazing full stop

Can't wait for Season 4 of Torchwood but after this I think it will never be the same again

i actually think that the lois Character was originally supposed to BE Martha Jones.

I remember reading some where that Russell kinda flipped out when Freema Signed on to "Law & Order UK", since it was on the Beeb's main competitor ITV, she was now under contract with them, therefore not available to reprise her role as Martha, who was " Supposed to play a large part of the story line"
so they had to go through and do massive rewrites

and yeah i think jack's walkabout will lead him into the doctor's path before David Tennant Regenerates in to Matt Smith. as for a final meeting?? I'll believe it when i see it.

I do detect a hint of "inspiration" from the underrated final 1979 Quatermass story (recommended BTW), but not enough to be actionable...

Say what you like about the BBC - that's three seriously decent slices of SF/Fantasy goodness they've served up this year (Torchwood 3, Being Human, Ashes To Ashes). I'd give them the Who special except the cheapskates should have sprung for a whole season...
