No one but a self-important IDIOT would fall for that- the radio guys were taking GREAT PAINS to make it over the top, and she STILL didn't get it; she had to be pulled off the phone by SOMEONE ELSE who DID understand it was a goof.

Also the insult to willow and damage done is to a large extent reversible, by Letterman clearing up the confusion and apologising for it - so not so much like shooting somebody in the head.

It's amazing. Here we have a second rate comedian (sorry, if he was first rate, he wouldn't have to work everynight) who makes a stupid joke in poor taste about a failed VICE PRESIDENTAL candidate. Palin should get upset, she's a mom. I am the father of girls and I empathise. Letterman screwed up what could have been a sincere apology because he makes people laugh for a living and couldn't pass up the laugh. Surprise, surprise, he is not rocket scientist. What is everyone else's excuse? This is one or the reasons I disconnected cable.

Hmmm...I've been a fan of Letterman practically since there was a Letterman to be a fan of. He usually pretty well suits my mood and temperament. But not always. And in recent years it's occurred to me occasionally to wonder just a little if there's something going on with him, and by "something" I mean a set of possibilities ranging from a little early-onset dementia to a subtle shift in focus brought about by the fairly new wife-and-child angle in his life. What I'm saying is sometimes I wonder if he's 100% all there for whatever reason. I would certainly agree that, in this instance, he and his staff were at least 2% somewhere else. And - let's face it - sometimes his delivery is just plain sloppy, which I think is pretty much what went wrong here.

Here's a very recent Biden Blunder to add to the list:
"Avid train rider and Vice President Joe Biden, on a conference call Monday with reporters, mistakenly claimed that the planned Hudson River tunnel between New Jersey and Midtown Manhattan would provide a much-anticipated route for automobiles.
Problem is, it's for trains.

"Look, this is designed, this totally new tunnel, is designed to provide for automobile traffic," Biden said, according to The Record of Bergen County. "It's something, as you know, up your way, that's been in the works and people have been clamoring for for a long time."
The Record, which asked Biden the tunnel-related question on the call, called the vice president out on the error. The north Jersey newspaper noted that the tunnel would accommodate more New Jersey Transit trains during peak hours -- cars are not part of the equation.
The mistake is notable given the former Delaware senator's well-documented affinity for trains and frequent Amtrak commutes between Washington and Wilmington during his Senate years. Biden also inadvertently irked public transit when he warned Americans in late April not to travel in "confined places" for fear of contracting swine flu."
