Yeah its a huge leap. Because its ok to make fun of an 18 year-old getting sexually assaulted. After all...he was only telling a joke...about a girl being sexually assaulted in a public place in front of her mother by an older man and we all know thats pretty funny. And Letterman is nothing if not fair...I'm sure tonight he'll have something funny about Sasha and Malia Obama getting pregenant.

Did Alex Rodriguez rape someone recently or something? If Letterman was most likely talking about the 18-year-old, as all of you seem to agree, where's this "sexual assault" business coming from?

Like I said, this joke was tasteless, and he shouldn't have made it, and it was an unfair attack out of left field on the private life of Sarah Palin's daughter.

But David Letterman is a comedian, he talks shit out of his mouth most of the time. This isn't news, it's a footnote in the show business section. Why's everyone up in arms?

Signy & Jerkko have no problem with disgusting Rape Jokes as long as it's about Sarah Palin's family. When did child rape or illegitimacy become a topic for comedy anyhow? Letterman himself fathered children out of wedlock, so it's really no surprise that he has no values whatsoever. Liberals walk a thin line between sanity and demented ideology. Maybe their daughters WANT to be impregnated by A Rod, or maybe they themselves do.

No one is debating the actual quote, Rue. I believe it's about the taste in which the joke was told if you take it in context. Palin was at the game with her 14 year old daughter. So, in context, Letterman is implying (again, purposefully or not) that A-Rod knocked up Willow, not Bristol. That's a little bit in bad taste, dontchathink? But seeing as how most people only think of Bristol as being promiscuous, that's how the writer's thought it would be taken . . . except they didn't think that Sarah Palin might get a little upset about it because it was her 14 yr. old daughter with her at the game. I think her anger is justified a little bit.

*EDIT* I don't see a rape implied, just for the record. Just sexual promiscuity (no idea really how to spell that
