No idea yet what I'm doing this weekend....wasn't planning on much, but I've got like four different people in VT and MA asking if I want to hang out with them and their friends. So many social events of the season, so little time. Can we just pry a Clone Ray out of the not-so-good Dr. H. and be everywhere at once??

HUGS WuS I sympathize. This weekend we will be in SLC while I and NV desperately wish to be back at home enjoying life....
However we will get to go to a 4 year old's Jasmine Princess party( my niece Annie)
Awww it's just 'cause you're such enjoyable company Steamer... now remember avoid crazy mean women, sit with and talk to the hot nice ones:)

Anyhoo, cake is always good. Hopefully the SLC guys on PBNation will message me back about shooting some paintball Sunday morning. Luckily there are mild believers like myself who choose the church of outdoors on Sunday.

Nobody wants to be in Milton Keynes.

I sense a joke about Milton Keynes being the Torchwood Hell about to occur, due to the two attendees being dead, although Owen's more radioactive Zombie sludge than dead, but I'll keep quiet.

Lol! I thought that too .. but Naoko Mori is there today, and Burn Gorman tomorrow, so they're not both there at the same time.

nuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, I have to finish this briefing!!! reeeeeeally don't want to present tomorrow, as it's my first time briefing ever at my base and it was just kind of voluntold on me (i hate public speaking, i can never do it without shaking or mumbling, which is bad) and i need to be prepped to try and minimize embarrassment ><;; so yes, lurk time

lol, this is worse than homework :P but thank you for the lend XD
this is *wednesday* "hey, you're doing a briefing on SAMS this weekend."
"wai--what? *knows nothing about SAMS, other than what it stands for* um..what'm i supposed to do for it?"
"find some information on SAMS *duh*. i'll make you an outline of what i want."
*stands stunned as person walks away*
"well...fuck me sideways. this is gonna be great."
that being said, i was able to find some stuff, whether or not it's right is a different story, but they know the circumstances, and my dry run yesterday went well; it just comes down to the whole speaking in front of a group thing ><;; if they ask questions im screwed, cuz i dont really know anything beyond what's going on the slides
[lurk]
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Just tell them beforehand not to ask questions! Or after, just be like 'And no, I won't be answering questions- just direct them to __'
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
lol, well i'm prefacing it with "I can't really verify any of this information", and i cant really direct questions elsewhere cuz i was the only one researching this stuff XD it'll be all right though, i hope ><;;
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Well, I know you did a good job on it, and just relax! Try your best to, anyways, and try to seperate yourself from the nerves instead of letting them take control...
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
lol thanks for the words of wisdom :P easier said than done sometimes, but i'll just have to make do (hence the immense notes/script i made for myself lol). not like it has to be a stellar briefing, but im a little obsessive about presentational quality. :P im silly that way.
*deep breath* now to assimilate information and sleep on it till the morning ^_^

Mini-Me is planning a party for her friends to come over & watch videos. Rather a "pot-luck" deal. We'll supply cake & pizza, asked those attending to please bring a bag of chips or 2 liter of drink with 'em.
I'm going to decorate a Portal cake, but it'll just be the frosting on a cardboard box. The cake will be a lie.
There'll be another actual cake for later, but I figure all of her friends will get the joke.
You'll be fine with the public speaking. Just do everything you can to become an expert on the subject & remember that you know more about it than anyone else there (or that person would be doing the talking). Couple'a dry runs, a touch of constructive feedback, and you'll be set. Chin up, shoulders back & BELIEVE that you can do it.
----------
NOTIFY: Y | REPLY | REPLY WITH QUOTE | PERMALINK | TOP | HOME
Awesome on the Portal cake XD
had no time for dry runs with the completed product ><;; just one with a draft two days ago.
I speed-talked the entire time and was shaking like a leaf (especially while using the laser pointer to point out certain pictures or whatnot), and i'm pretty sure I effed up some of my information cuz i was so apopleptic i couldn't really think straight.
But, they thought I did a good job, so I guess it wasn't a total loss (i took every effort to not reed off of the slides, cuz theres no point of giving a briefing if u do that, so i made sure i had some extra information, though i forgot one piece, and didnt realize it till after the briefing when i remembered it word for word @_@)
all in all, for my first briefing ever, it was far from a failure, though i wish i'd had the self control to slow down a little and pause without feeling like i was leaving a blank spot. *hates awkward silences*
*sigh* can u see how neurotic i am? XD LOLZ, i promise, im not like this about everything, just stuff that puts me in the spotlight.

I don't think I'd ever get bored. Even if I did I can always just volunteer for a little while to get out and do something. The thing is with volunteering there's no requirement to keep going. I can stop at any time.
Really if I was uber rich I bet that I would volunteer a lot at animal shelters. That would be something I'd actually get some fulfillment from.

NV but what you do is really important and without you loads of kids would have a life that is far less successful
Hmm Zeek I like the idea of volunteering. I totally couldn't at an animal shelter though 'cause I'd end up taking all the animals home with me. Well maybe i could run an animal shelter and take in all the animals

When my mom got us our first kitty we went to a place called "the cat house" (no idea if they knew what that means or not)

Um...no. I never wanted red hair. I don't think it works well on men. Though it can be crazy hot on women. At the same time I'm not vain enough to dye my hair brown or something.
Kid story side note: One time as a kid a person walked up to me and my mom in a store and asked me where I got my red hair from. I immediately shot back "God" and then looked at my mom like "what's wrong with this idiot?"

Some rules I live by:
- Never stop learning

Ooh also this summer GI Joe, Inglorious Basterds ( how much do I love that they've had to ask reviewers to point out that they know Basterds is a misspelling. )

Spiderman 3 and Xmen 3 both royally sucked. So did Superman Returns. I think X3 and Supes were the same summer too. That was a bad movie summer.
Edit: oh oh Pirates of the Caribbean 2. The first one was so whitty and came out of no where. Then the second one just rehashed the same jokes as much as possible. I hate stuff like that. I think they said "why's the rum gone" like 4 times in the sequel. Yeah it was funny the one time in the original, but it's very difficult to find a joke that is funny over and over. Come up with something new! I disliked that movie so much I still haven't seen the 3rd and I don't rewatch the first one much anymore either. grrrr I hate when a sequel is so bad it makes you dislike the original.
Also, Phantom Menace is obvious.

I saw the original when I was a kid, and this is one of the very, very few isolated instances when the remake is actually better than the original. As the bad guy, John Travolta was the shizznit - I don't often think bad guys are cool, but Travolta pulled it right off. Oh man, and the DIALOGUE!! One would almost think Uncle Joss wrote that movie, the dialogue was so zingy and true to life. There's one great scene where Denzel Washington is talking to John Travolta over the radio and subtly insults his boss who's standing right in front of him. Now his boss is a dink - reminds me very much of some hou-zi-de-pi-gu I used to work for. I could've clapped aloud at that part.
Good characters, good action and tension (like you expect anything less from Tony Scott), and a background of political corruption....wow. A really well-done movie, all told. Don't let your kids see it for a few years, but go forth and enjoy.

That's why I only review the really good ones.
I think 2003 was the last year there were this many movies I wanted to see. Of course, next year, nothing's going to top 'Browncoats: Redemption'.

NVG here:
Just watched Miracle At St Anna
What a mirrored experience in comparison to last night. Substance, solid view, great story telling. I highly recommend this to anyone. Spike Lee has made movies I would watch, enjoy, and have some disagreement with later. I am having a hard time finding fault with this incredible movie.

Disappointing movie: Starship Troopers

I never read the book so maybe that's why I'm not disappointed I found it fun frothy stupidity...but I like crappy movies
I also like not crappy movies.... so Miracle at St. Anna's is really well done, great pacing, engaging story line, and some really exceptional acting.

Ah Monday the sleepiest most hated of all days.
I wish I could just go watch some of the movies you are all talking about. That would beat working any day.

I would have been happy with the Starship Troopers movie if they had called it "Shooting Bugs with Lasers in Space" or something like that. But the movie was one of the least faithful adaptations I have ever seen.
You should check out the book. It's a quick read, and it's pretty good.

Other big movie disappointments: Both the 2nd and 3rd Matrix movies.

Definitely a sleepy day...
NV's likely to be super busy. There was a problem at the facility over the weekend and he spent loads of time on the phone and then went in late Saturday and then for part of the day Sunday and early this morning... nothing like being the one on call when something goes wrong

Wow I really just don't get people who want to decide what's right for other people. There was a segment on CNBC about online poker (which I like to play) and this lawyer guest says that it leads to alcoholism, child abuse, depression and suicide. Sweet shit man. I think I had 1 beer in a month. I don't have any child to abuse but there's no way I'd ever intentionally hurt a kid. I'm not depressed and I've never thought about committing suicide. What a psycho. I mean how do you even convince yourself that your cause is just when you have to lie about it?
At least the host called him out on it and asked what facts he had to back any of it up. The guys was just like um...well...there have been studies. Riiiiiiight.

Well, I read a study that posting on FFF.net would lead to the same symptoms...

It's not the online poker or anything else it's a combination of poor impulse control and addictive personalities... It's all about the individual and their choices. The root has to be in the person before the action can occur and the person has to make the choice to engage.

Maybe doing both cancels them out and that's why I'm not evil. Well not evil in those ways at least.
