Even that fails to over ride so may default settings of "them".

I was talking about the wide spectrum between overly clingy and taking for granted. That statement in itself describes the wide spectrum of thinking men fail to comprehend (sometimes by choice). I know I have given up all together trying to fill that spectrum with logic. Some people cannot communicate precisley what they want and opt to get angry because others fail to read their minds.

Men are not mind readers (as MSA loves to point out when some princess goes off about stupid stuff on TV). For my sanity I have to turn off the behavior/communication scanner constantly. It becomes tedious, trying to read and calculate the actions and intentions of others. No more mind reading here. It has come to where I state my observations to people as the talk any more.

Tired of wasting time on sideline B.S. Many women REALLY hate that.

I think Britney is a very good example. She initially started out very hot and not too crazy. However, as time went on her hotness decreased and her craziness increased. She past the inflection point and was no longer worthy of male attention.

You are young LF. It is the 20-30 something "girls" who act like fate, god, men, and the world owe them something for their mere presence. If you wish to live in a better way, use them as examples. Bad, bad examples. It is a stigma of generations. Even "women" suffer from that stigma. Honestly, there is more of a maturity issue than an age one. Insecurity also helps to define this stigma further. Be leary of those moms who shop with their daughters and seem to dress in a similarly slutty manner. Watch out for men who revolve around those type. And check yourself from time to time. If you find you may have compromised yourself and/or your beliefs for negative attention from males (especially considerably older ones) then the Princess Factor may have surfaced.

It is the offset to the male "plays dumb to ignore the issue" and "doesn't have a clue when it comes to women" genetic strain. Large, small, medium, brown, white, black, strait, or gay all men have this problem. They also come with the "can't find it despite it being right in front of him" gene. That one bugs me, mostly because I do it all the time. I know what I'm looking for. Color, shape, weight, specifications, and purpose are clear in my mind. But whatever it is I can't find the gorram thing. Sometimes whatever I lost is right in my hands and occasionally on my head (my hat is good at hiding for some reason).

I think they are the awkward balances men and women have. Without the balances and interlocking genitals why would they even need each other.

I actually think clingy and taking you for granted as the same thing. It's clearly communicating that other peoples wishes and needs mean nothing to you and that you are self absorbed. If all you worry about in a relationship is who is doing what for YOU... bad thing! Also if you are score keeping... well I picked up your drycleaning so you should have to cook dinner... not good. This is not about some sort of balance sheet where every deed good or bad is recorded and expected to be balanced by action of the other... It's about each of you working to make the other person as happy as they make you. It's thinking first " how can I help or take care of them" because you know that's what they are thinking about you.

Yeah, but where's the fun in that? Anger gives a guy motivation to find more fun and fulfilling pursuits (and a good reason to increase his tolerance to alcohol). There is no reason why anyone should put up with a crazy bitches (there are more male bitches IMHO, this is not a gender referance).

San Diego 'Bug? That is a long freakin' drive. I'm one to consider stopping if the drive is over seven or eight hours. This has not always been so. But then again I used to be younger, smoked, drank real soda, and was a bit more caring (read as stupid).

Discuss all of the hotbutton issues. Politics, abortion, gun control ("Nice group Dear, but the third round was a bit high & right"), gay rights, could Naruto beat River in a stand-up fight, would Wash & Zoe's kids be warriors or comics or some sort of hybrid wise-cracking skull crushers?. Make sure you're truly compatible, or at least both willing to "not go there."

Beauty is fleeting. I'm not knocking it, I like the pretties as much as anyone, but it isn't forever.

Heya Flattop. Good to see ya about. I especially love the "high and to the right" example.

So I (insert shameless plug here) listen to the Bomshelter, a local underground hip hop radio show on a regular basis. It airs Sunday night from 10PM to 1 AM so it is a bit difficult to catch it when it is on most times. Luckily they have the shows recorded online so they can be streamed or downloaded on an Ipod.

There has to be chemistry. You get close to each other & being rational isn't so important anymore, looks are about meaningless (especially once the lights are out). If (s)he can make your heart beat faster, your hormones surge, and you're still compatible the day after... Count yourself lucky, and do what you can to keep this one.

Long ago, I knew a few beautiful women that were high on the Hot scale & low on the Crazy scale, both of us single & willing, but we just didn't make that chemical connection so things never went anywhere. Great to hang out with, but that was about all, they were just one of the group y'know?

There has to be more of course (see previous posts), but without chemistry, you might as well be living with a sibling.

I wonder if that's nature's way of keeping genetically incompatible folk from getting together (or if the chemistry (genetics) is bang on, encouraging getting together)?

It's like that old saying, different strokes for different folks. Just because we can sometimes tell the difference doesn't mean everyone can. We can only tell the difference because we're used to it (although Bridget being a guy shocked the hell outta me). I like the previous idea of playing music.tv etc as a test. That doesn't quite work for me and Husband. He is deeply scared by much of my taste. He refers to me as a 'Stealth Geek'

I look like a normal thirty-something woman on the outside. No tattoos or piercings, even. I'm usually dressed in plain jeans and tee-shirt, not even a logo. Which is why my books/media come as such a shock. We first bonded over a 'Stainless Steel Rat' quote. By the time he realized how scary I was, it was too late. He'd been suckered in by the cooking, and the fact that I looked like trouble, 'but in a good way'.

Of course, he looks like a normal guy, too. Quiet, unassuming office type. So the esoteric knife skills etc were a fun find.

This I think is a good sign of compatability, when you can ask,

'Darling, if I wanted to disable a man twice my size, what would be a good tendon to cut?"

And get an answer.

This talk of compatibility got me thinking about my own situation.

My Girlfriend Rose and I will have been together ten years next month.

We were introduced at a party by a mutual friends and we clicked. Neither of us will be winning any beauty contests anytime soon but we were attracted to each other right off.

We both are sci-fi geeks (Both love Trek and SW) and she's into Babylon 5 nearly as bad as I am into Firefly (She named her pet Bearded Dragon, G'Kar)

We both have friends who live in alternative lifestyles (Use your imagination) We are both into planes, trains and automobiles. When we met, I drove an ambulance and she drove a bus. I turned her on to Pink Floyd and Jimmy Buffett and she got me hooked on Metalica and Chicago (How's that for dichotomy in musical tastes?)

The list goes on. We rarely argue and Rose is also my very best friend along with being my girlfriend. Neither of us wants to do the marriage thing. I count myself one of the luckiest guys in the 'Verse.

Five years ago, if they weren't already taken, they were desperate and expected to be married with a passel of critters underfoot by the end of the first year. Today, well....either they don't care about anything or they're still desperate, but only because they play the Blame Game with every guy they date and summarily break up with him, then wonder why they're still single. I just don't bother anymore.

Today, they are desperate or pathetic, wanting the 20-something instead of someone they could have a real relationship with?

There may be some truth in both of our assessments, but eesh...anytime the problem lays all with one gender, someone isn't looking at the whole picture. I'm sort of hoping that someone recently stepped on your heart and that isn't the way you always feel. (edited to add: I don't really hope that...but it might explain, yes?)

Rugbug - who is single, doesn't want a passel of children (or even one), and is hopefully not too bitter that the men in my age range seem to think they should be dating college students.

The thing I find funny is shows like Seinfeld or Friends where you see this 30 somethings dating someone new like every week. Like everyone they approach is attractive and single at that age. I didn't realize how silly that was when I was younger watching those shows.

I admit I thought life in my 20's was going to be like that too. I'd be dating around and didn't care what happened and I'd just meet this plethora of single eligible guys...

I was watching Home Improvement (which is quite sexist if you ask me, but that's for a different time). Anyways, it really bugs me that the boys are only 12 or 13 and they are dating around as much as they do in Friends and Seinfeld!

That's the biggie for me too. I'm not putting much effort into finding someone cause it's just not very high on my priority list. Sometimes I even wonder if I'd be willing to make time for someone else in my life. I really like the freedom to do what I want when I want. Being on vacation or home for the holidays gets on my nerves pretty quickly because I have to adjust to other people's wants and needs.

Ones and fives tend to disappear quickly for this very reason.

Honestly, they are all crazy. The question is "What degree of crazy are you capable of dealing with?"

I noticed the "dating" around happening on Home Improvement as well. But in real life I see that behavior more with girls than I do boys. At the same time I've seen/heard boys talk the very same way girls talk when they figure no one is listening. I think it is a factor of maturity. Sadly many people never out grow it.

Actually, I think that's quite a valid assessment. I've seen too much of it from my fellow men over the years (esp. the recent ones) and been like, I hope you know you're making all us nice guys look bad, too. Most everybody's got baggage when they get into a coupling. Everybody's got shortcomings no matter what. The question is, how tolerant is each body going to be of the other's shortcomings? How forgiving? How supportive? And when a problem comes up, does one person really deserve all the blame, or is it something both parties should sit down and work out? I think we'll find that it's the latter, 97.835% of the time.

It does, because that's unfortunately true. And my ex was just the type to lay all the blame at my door whenever there was a problem. I can't deny that I had issues as well and they didn't do much to smoothe things over, but my approach was 'forgive and forget' whereas hers was 'blame and begrudge'. You'd have to ask her for her side of the story, though. Stories, like relationships, all have two sides, without which there's no new leaf to turn over.

When we go out to dinner, if Mrs. Me passes on desert, but I want one, sometimes I order two & know I'll get to eat half of the one we share and all of the other

When she was pregnant with Mini-Me, I gave up smoking (was planning to quit anyway, that was a great reason to) & drinking to show solidarity with her. Once the baby was born, never really went back to either one except on rare occasions.
The thought of being fuzzy headed & making a mistake while taking care of the baby scared the want of liquor right out of me.
Dying of cancer before meeting my great-grandchildren solved the tobacco issue. No assurance I'll make it that long anyway, but I've reduced by 1 the number of things that may take me out.

I have the bad habit of not going to the doctor for regular check ups. I haven't been to the doctor's in years as is. Mainly because I don't want to find out my cholesterol is through the roof or my blood pressure is crazy. What I don't know can't hurt me right? Or at least it can't make me change my routine that I'm accustomed to.

I'm a sucker for all kinds...

...of doughnuts.

Not big on the kind with filling for some reason. And though MSA loves eclairs I just ain't that into them. Cake doughnuts are usually my contraband of choice. The local Mexican bakery/grill has a good assortment of Mexican style pastries and cakes. My favorite is a lighter corn cake. I compared it to the cake used for pineapple upside down cake with less butter and sugar. Just enough sweet to make me happy. Everyone gushes about Krispy Kreme. To me it is like comparing Mc Donalds to a Vortex Burger. Similarities end at the name "hamburger".
