"Sawright.. did it to myself....
I baked five lovely loaves of bread today, plus put some pizza dough in the freezer. Yay me!
What goes better with bread: beer, wine, or mead?
Hmmm....
Barkeep, one of each while I ponder!

Is there a specific reason not to see that new Star Trek? I don't really wanna see it myself (since I love the original chars WITH THE ORIGINAL ACTORS, and I don't wanna see anyone else trying to take their place), but I'm curious anyways...

IMO, You're missing out on a great movie. The actors they choose do great jobs in the roles.
And if it bothers you that much, read below:

It's actually an alternate universe. Spock from the original series did some stuff and ended up sending himself and a baddie through a black hole. Which then changes the entire timeline and characters backstories, such as Kirks reason for joining star fleet and such

it takes everything from the original star trek, throws it out the fucking window, and writes a different story using the lame-ass excuse of "alternate reality" because of some bogus time travel thing (yeah, i know, they did time travel in ST 4: a journey home, but still, really? recycling old ideas?), and i dont give a fuck what reality theyre in,

you can't magically blast yourself out of a black hole. they'd have been torn apart before they even reached the event horizon. teh physics.
Karl Urban's character was overdone because he's tough guy bad ass trying to be nerdy quirky doctor, and although i admire his impression of deforest kelley, he's just not the same Bones.

That, and the Romulans in their little temper tantrum, wiped out the Vulcans, which are a huge part of the Federation, killed Kirk's dad, killed off Spock's mother--WHO MAKES A FUCKING APPEARANCE IN THE ORIGINAL FILMS EXCUSE ME--i could see killing her if she never made an appearance, but she did; then they wiped out the Klingons, who are one of the most frequent villains to the Federation, then Kirk in his infinite "bad-assness" wipes out the Romulans, yet ANOTHER frequent villain of the series--Kirk gets surgery to look like one so he can infiltrate them in one ep, i forget what the central conflict was. So now, you basically have the Borg, who don't even show up in the Kirk universe, but still, really?
The highlight of the film was Scottie, but he unfortunately wasn't in the film for that long as he made a very late entrance *sigh*
my brother agreed, it really just destroyed what was a great series & collection of films. I mean, if you're not familiar with the original star trek, and you saw this star trek, you'd think that's what the original star trek was all about, and it totally isn't. A trekkie, or even just someone who's seen the films and original series, would watch this and go, "um.....no. wrong." they were basically trying to appeal to a new audience with this one, and it made me sad. I didn't really want to see it in the first place, but the bro did, knowing it definitely wouldn't measure up to the originals, and though we're not trekkies (maaaybe closet trekkies, considering we were upset with what Abrams did with this, but then again i get upset when *any* franchise is ruined by an attempt to resurrect a genre/classic) we were pretty bummed. was it good? as a stand-alone, non-affiliated with star trek (i wish) it was a good action flick, even though the individual scenes were better than the whole IMO. ><;;
[/rant] :P barkeep, a late night snack before i retire, i unfortunately have a long day tomorrow ><;;

NV and I have seen it twice and I really liked it... thought it was loads better than the new Terminator flick:)
But then I enjoy the willing suspension of disbelief:)
