You know, that's prettymuch the ONLY way a politician learns empathy or compassion whatsoever, yes ?
Those among us who have fallen the lowest, the deepest, and somehow survived and climbed back out of the death spiral, despite their quirks are some of the most human, compassionate people out there, because they KNOW, in a way that cannot be ignored or forgotten, what the darkness holds, and when they see others sliding to the void they're the first to throw the rope.
And when they see someone else pushin folk over the edge for power or gain, they've no respect for em - believe me, I wholeheartedly believe that if Cheney ever stuck his neck out far enough (which he won't, cause he's a fearful, cowardly, paranoid little git) that Biden would make his ass *dissappear*, and quicklike - remember this is a guy who has "friends in low places" which most politicians do not, and intel contacts with the same sorta folk.
So don't take the man for an idiot, were he that, he'd be dead - this is a guy whos been to the bottom of the rabbit hole and back again, that *changes* a person, if they come back at all.
He might be kooky, inarticulate and seem on first glance a little dim, but if you look at his life, history and political record (note the fact that for a congressman he's dirt freakin poor) this is a guy who puts HIS ethics first, and while they are different than ours, and on many matters I am certain many of his constituents disagree with em, at least he HAS ethics.
Hey Frem,
Thanks for that. It's weird how little nonevent threads like this can bring out the ugly in people. Some here actually believe that suffering tragic loss makes people stupid and crazy.
Some here believe that Cheney had/has our best interests uppermost, when in practice the Bush/Cheney admin was rife with cronyism, nepotism and purely political appointees. Time and again, the exec branch dropped the ball because one of their appointees were simply incompetent or vicious.
And yet, like my pocket full of magic anti-polar bear dust, they "kept us safe."
Look, Cheney made up his little hidy hole and publicized it to gratify his own grandiosity and the authoritarians among us ate it up with a spoon. How many times did we hear about the President being in an "undisclosed location?" None that I can recall. Does that mean he wasn't safe, or didn't have anywhere to hide? Of course not. The "undisclosed location" was a publicity stunt, part of the Cheney "mystique." That Cheney actually had a tricked out secret bunker attests to his own crazy, not Biden's.
I'm glad Biden made a joke of Cheney's "undisclosed location," 'cause that's all it was.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Yeah, if only Cheney would have had an aide around to explain what he "really meant" by shooting his friend in the face. Hell, if only SOMEONE had been around to talk to the press or police about it, 'cause Cheney sure wasn't making himself available...

Hey now, accidents do happen. And, the dude he shot wasn't supposed to be up on his left, according to the shooting pattern they had worked out to bird hunt, and that's according to the guy who got shot. He said he was at fault, even though Cheney kept blaming himself, even to the press.

I must have missed that, are we reading the same thread?

"... even though Cheney kept blaming himself, even to the press ..."
But all we have are stories concocted after the event, since Cheney didn't allow the police to do an investigation.

I think you missed the point I was trying to make; perhaps I was too subtle. But in missing the point, you once again helped prove it: The point is, we ALL have our partisan blinders on, in one form or another - even those of us who claim no partisanship. Some here are willing to overlook a "mis-speak" or a gaffe, while others want to point it out as if it were the worst thing in the world - and then those same people might tend to overlook a man shooting another man in the face as a simple "accident" - while the other camp will go on about how evil one must be to ever shoot another person in the face...
Thing is, too many on both sides are willing to completely overlook their sides' "gaffes", no matter how egregious, and are all too willing to stoke the flames over the other side's perceived failings.
I say it in the full knowledge that I'm exactly as guilty of it as anyone else. More than some, less than others...

We always knew Cheney's lair was under the VP residence at the Naval Observatory, since that was in the news when it was built.
Seems the neighbors didn't like the construction disrupting their VIP lives, so they complained to the press.
Like a Homeowners Association complains when your grass is too tall.
If your neighbor built a bunker under his house, in a $100-million govt project, you would know it.
Cheney's lair was just in case the US military, FBI and local cops couldn't be bribed to STFU and stand down from arresting the traitors who perped 9.11.

You're welcome, amazing how our culture has slanted our morality to the point where actual human empathy qualifies as "stupid and crazy" cause those pesky morals get in the way of a proper citizens upright arrogant sociopathy, ain't it ?
Having a little tragedy is ok, but nothing TOO close, oh no, never close enough to actually make someone have to FEEL something about it, of course not, because then they might CARE...
And caring about others in this sociopathy we call society is a faux paus dontcha know.
Being human is NOT a weakness, it is only from our own humanity that true strength comes.
