Actually, the suites wanted Spock/Uhura, they'd rather it was not black/white, but Shat said if theres kissen' to be done... it's gonna be done by me. The day after the kiss the suits wanted t reshoot with Kirk holding her in his arms and looking into the camera instead of kissing her. Well, Shat does that but when he looks into the camera hes all crosseyed. They decided to go with the kiss. Plus when I went to the movie a saecond time I saw the Tribbles.

You'll see the subtle switching of Stun and Kill on the new phasers in the movie. Kinda cool.

I liked the fact that they held their phasers like, well, guns, rather than, say, a water hose nozzle or a T.V remote.
I was pretty impressed with the film overall, and I was kinda glad they did the whole thing Nimoy thing. The story needed someone to come along and explain exactly what the hell was going on, and I thought Nimory did that job very well.

Saw this Wednesday night and I have to say I was disappointed. The way everyone went on about it I was expecting something amazing, but I found it to be just a typical summer blockbuster.
On the plus side I thought the humour was a welcome addition. I always thought Star Trek could use a little more of it, especially after seeing how it could work well in other sci-fi dramas like Stargate and Firefly. I thought that Urban stole the show as McCoy.
I felt the villain was weak though, and I love a good villain, so this really brought the movie down for me. Bana probably did the best he could with what was there, but I didn't find the character interesting.
There were also plenty of moments that felt out of place, and I may be alone here, but I find using CG for the sake of CG boring. The space battles were fine, but some of the Star Wars type monsters and aliens felt out of place to me.
The trouble is if I were to consider the film as a seperate property from Star Trek, I would probably give it a 6-7/10, but as a Star Trek movie I see it more as a 5/10 based on what I come to expect from good Trek.

One problem I had with the film was a personal one. I have just lost my mother, so the scene in which Spock loses his really hurt. I went into the movie hoping to escape reality, so having it hit home really drained a lot of the enjoyment out of it.
Maybe I'll feel differently later, but as it stands, I was as disappointed after this one as I was with Nemesis (Both for reasons of hype I should add. Nemesis with the even numbered movie expectation and this one because of all the advertising).

I've only read a few posts on this thread, but if it's the same as everywhere else I visit my opinion is going to be different from most everyone else.
With the exception of Quinto as Spock, I did not like it and I have no plans to ever watch it again.
