Quiet day today. Anybody seen any good movies? I hear wolverine was trash, but I'm not going to bother. They botched X3 so badly they don't deserve any of my $$$. I'm ready for a full reboot that sticks to the comics more than tries to fit the characters into the real world.

I'd give it a try. Like the rest of the flicks there is just a ton of stuff off about the whole mess. I looked past the fact that Huge Jackoff is a terrible Logan and the storyline is way off. It was actually a pretty good rendering of (a) version of Logan. Despite the hype and low expectations I set it did not turn out too bad.

Now, Logan and (character deleted to avoid spoilage) ride into (town deleted) on motorcycles in the fashion Johnny Blaze and Dan Ketch would in the Ghostrider movie I would have made. A ton of frame and caps do an awesome job capturing frame art styles seen in comics.

I'd say catch it at a cheap matinee, sneak in snacks, and settle in with a foutain drink on a hot day.

Meh I'll wait til it shows up on cable. I'm going to give Terminator a shot later this month though. Christian Bale's been on fire lately. So, I'm hoping he read the script and knows it's going to be good. I could easily see them going way way wrong with it though.

bout 1/4 of the way in I had to just turn of my head 'cause I was starting to mutter to myself. It's really not bad, though Logan's a bit , well overly emotive for him.
Just delete about 80% of the weapon X story line and all is well

I can only do that for movies in their own little universe that they create. If it's about a book or based on something I already know about I can never just turn my brain off. I just get more and more upset by the stupid junk they change that ends up worse than the material they had to start from.

Star Trek and Terminator is also on my list. Not so sure why Trek is, but I've seen all the Terminator movies in the theater or the drive-in and this one looks pretty bad-ass.

ADD: There are so many alternate X-verse thingies that I don't really have a favorite. Daredevil suffered endlessly for the reason you noted. Miller Man Without Fear is my favorite, but without giving props to other writers I guess there would have been static. The last Punisher flick was the shit!

They're doing a good job of promoting Star Trek. I'm boycotting for the crappiness that is Lost. Both J.J. Abrams projects. I'll catch both Wolvie and Trek on cable sometime I'm sure.

Actually after Terminator I'm not sure there's anything I'm waiting to be released this summer. For shame hollywood. Seriously there have to be at like 10 movie franchises that are like shooting fish in a barrel and there's like 1 movie I want to see? Lame.

For instance I heard the rumor they were shooting the next to Spiderman movies back to back. That's the way to go really. Get a killer franchise and just get a cash hose and point it at the stars. Get them to hang around twice as long and you'll cut down the lag time between movies a ton and people will still show up. It's not like Lord of the Rings suffered releasing each part one year after another. Put like a 2 year span between Spiderman movies and just roll in the piles of cash you'll make. There are a ton of spidey villians to work with and there's always an opening to revive past ones.

Well, I'm planning on seeing the Wolverine movie for one reason and one reason only: Gambit. I was extremely upset that Gambit wasn't in X3, but with him in this movie, I really want to see how they portray him. I won't have any of the issues that MSA had, since I hate comic books with a passion (but love the comic book movies, so it's just the reading material that I have issues with, not the content. I even refuse to read the serenity comics.)and I have no clue what is supposed to happen. X3 was a major disappointment, but since a matinee ticket in this town is only $2.50, I don't see a problem with finding out if they managed to do something better this time.

i was VERY upset that gambit was nowhere in the series, and very much more disappointed with the way X3 came out ><;; i'd see wolverine to see how they did gambit, but i dont wanna spend the money on a bad movie ><;; i'll wait till it comes out on cable or sumthin. I went to see Wolverine at the midnight showing with my brother and some of his friends, all of whom know more about X-Men than I do (I know a little prior movie trivia, but I didn't buy comics on a regular basis or watch the cartoons).

Gambit was their favorite going into the movie; I think that was one of the reasons at least one of them was in attendance too. They said Wolverine wasn't too far off the mark in some ways, that Gambit was better than some portrayals of the others, but a small letdown overall in comparison with the coolness that should have been (even though they still said he was cool), and

at least Xavier was mostly like himself! In his all of 2 minutes of botoxed/CG'ed screen time... :P (seriously, what was wrong with his face?)

So... I guess if you're a die-hard fan you'd be a little let down, but they all agreed (as did I) that it was vastly better than X3 which was a travesty that never should have made it past the draft stage. They rated it an 8/10. I gave it an 8.5, subject to reevaluation.

Oh, and I'm counting down until Star Trek, but I'm not sure if I'll go see it Friday if the show time conflicts with the last Dollhouse episode this season.

Gah, all I want to do is browse fff.net with fellow Browncoats on this rainy spring night, but essays are demanding to be graded before tomorrow. The thread title, bubble baths and chocolate, sounds good too!

Nope, just watched several episodes of the anime (in Japanese, with subs)and discussed it with a few people. If there was an actual novel of it I might read it, same as Serenity or any of the other ones that sound interesting, but I just can't seem to handle reading material that focuses more on pictures than the words.

I even had a class in college that used a glorified comic book (otherwise known as a graphic novel)as one of the many textbooks we had to read. I could only make it halfway through, and got that far because I had to write a paper on it. Had a great debate in class over the effectiveness or lack thereof of the genre to show the realities of war.

Ah, well I feel sorry for you then, cause you're missing out on some good stuff.

I'll tell you the same thing I tell other people, graphic novels are just novels that show you what something is supposed to look like instead of telling you.

And regular novels tend to focus on pictures as well, but instead of showing it to you they want you to picture it mentally. I've read novels that go on for two or three pages just describing a building or something like that.

I never really got into comics as a kid. I've only read some now for Firefly, Buffy and Angel. I gotta say it's not my favorite genre. They seem sooooo short to me. Everytime I finish one I just go "that's it?". I expect them to be like an episode of TV and they're more like 1/4 of an episode at best.

Regular novels do describe things so that you can picture them in your mind, but no two people ever picture it the same, even though the same words were used to evoke the image. Even the same person reading the book twice can see different things due to greater experience than the first time that they had read it. The pictures aren't set in stone, there is no right or wrong way to see what is happening. The focus is on the words and how the words thread the images through your mind instead of on the images themselves. It's a subtle difference, but still enough that it can be noticed, even if both genres make you see the image of a building.

It's like the difference between a television show and a radio show. Both have actors, both are written to entertain, but one focuses more on the visuals, while the other has to focus on sound effects and words to give the same idea. The effect is the same, in that you will understand what is going on, but there is still the subtle difference in the way that they do it, and some people respond to one way better than the other.

It's just personal preference, like enjoying scifi more than westerns (or vice versa).

The thing is they already did the little flashforward of what the kids would look like in that situation. So, it can't be her. Plus wouldn't the kids he's telling the story to know the name was the same as their mother's?

edit: I've decided they're just yanking our chain. Last week was about calling a girl the day you get her number and Ted said "and kids when I got your mother's number I called her the first day and blah blah". They would have known about the next episode by then and why would they put such a shady line in the script? He might have called her, but it would have been to see that really bad movie with all her friends that he thought was a date but clearly wasn't.

Annoying? I would have accepted boring or uninteresting, but annoying is unacceptable. The stupid part is that there are great ideas out there that they just aren't using. I mean for the x-men they could have some killer movies. I don't know why the heck they didn't do a sentinels movie. They can show humans being all mutantist. They can have crazy action scenes. It'll be expensive from a CGI standpoint but I bet it would make boat loads of money if they action is good enough.

How about Apocalypse? That movie could be awesome too. He's like the scariest X-villain IMO. He's crazy powerful, practically immortal and hell bent on annihilation. There should be plenty of action there too.

There was literally a wave of indie comics and creators in the early 90's. It spilled over to some of the major labels and made for darker, more interesting comics. Art and copetition really excelled at this time. I was glad to have witnessed it.

Bring it on! I eat peanuts for breakfast. Actually I don't cause that would be gross. But sometimes as part of lunch. Though not very often. Almost never with dinner. Infrequently as a snack as well. But I've eaten peanuts in the past and it's been no problem at all. So, there!

Malcolm is messed up in my head forever. A guy in grade school was named Martin Malcolm and I awesome thought it was a goofy name. So Martin and Malcolm both just sound goofy to me now.

OK so I'm a fairly easy going person. I just go with the flow and deal with things. I've never dropped a course or quit a job. I just take my lumps. If ever I've wanted to quit a job it's now. I just found out I'm getting a "new" manager. Though she's not really new. She was my manager's manager a couple years ago when I had to challenge a poor performance evaluation. An evaluation that got reversed the day I challenged it which the HR rep I talked to said "never happens". She is a micromanaging moron who had us jumping through hoops and never listened to a word we said. We were jumping up and down, waving and screaming about a problem and she didn't listen until it was right on top of us and said "oh my gosh we'll what can we do about this problem?". Not much now you bitch! I'm so so so pissed right now.

Actually it is my great grandmothers name. We're trying to keep family names as much as possible. MSA suggested my brothers name, but he my decide to have a Jr some day. I think is middle name might be appropriate.

I know but we tried a lot of it and she just turns it around on us. I think I may have to literally start putting things in writing and asking for her signature. Like you said such and such in this meeting please sign here.

She even invented stuff when she was trying to give me a bad review. She said I'd gotten an interim review telling me to shape up and that she had the email that I was copied on. I told her I store everything and I didn't have anything called that. When I asked for her to forward me a copy of what she had it suddenly disappeared and she said "well I saw it here just a minute ago. Then she just stopped talking about it. She's an underhanded jerk IMO. I just can't stand people who lie in a professional environment. We're trying to get a job done here and flat out lying is unacceptable.

That's totally what'd I'd do Zeek. Every time she asks you to do something tell her you'll be happy to as soon as she puts it in writing and signs her name to it. Say you're just ensuring clear lines of communication and making sure you are following her instructions exactly as she wants. Then you can keep them all and if there's any question you've got proof. If you send her something in writing, make sure you have an email reciept that shows when it was received and read and make sure if you're telling ehr something important you go in, explain it and have a pre written point by point of what you are telling her. Make sure you have one more person with you and ask her to sign saying she received a copy of the point by point... it's the only way. I've had a boss like that and if you don't she will twist everything you say, lie about what you told her and generally screw you over. She's incompetent and she hides it by trying to skew things to make her employees look bad.

Agreed. A clear point that she's incompetent is that a while ago there was a presentation about how some people got into the role they're in inside the company and she was on a panel of 3 people. The other 2 took half the time to reach the role they were in compared to her and now she's basically taken a step back down to a lower role in the company. I just don't get why they keep people like that around. We're clearly shrinking as a company right now so let the dead wood go already. Sheesh.

Right now I really want to quit my job too... I worked an insane number of hours last week and suddenly this week I am beyond booked solid and people keep piling it on... I'm happy to pull my share, but not overly thrilled at pulling triple the caseload anyone else is carrying.

Getting her to sign something will be very difficult. I kind of doubt she'll do that.

I've had a similar situation in the past. What I did was send an e-mail summary after each meeting. At the end of the e-mail, I offered the person the chance to "clarify" anything from the meeting. In order to do that, they had to then respond in writing...

I also kept a hand-written log book for anything that did not fit into this category. So, if something was said on a given day, I'd write down what was said, when it was said, and who was present when it was said.

My manager would then try to blame things on me, but I would just pull out the documentation of what actually occurred. After that, they would come up with some excuse and leave me alone. Until the next time...

But all of this really sucked. I put up with it for nearly two years, hoping they would move on. They didn't. The day I left that company was one of the best days of my life.

That's what I'm most worried about. Though so far I've been at this company 5 and a half years and this will be my 6th manager. So, hopefully she won't last more than a year.

Funny. I've been through seven or eight Facility Mangers/Directors in the facility in the last nine and a half years. Seems after watching so many come and go it is easier to figure the shelf life of a manager than to simply endure the B.S.

Holidays are few and far between. We get Memorial Day, then nothing until July 3rd. That is actually quite cool as I haven't heard of anyone getting "not the 4th" off. Next is Labor Day which is September 7th. Labor Day works out great as we'll still be reeling from Dragon*Con.

Putting my office into some sort of "order" is a joke. I do like it being cleaner though. While I'm gone Friday new carpet is being installed. This is cool because my office, the office next to me, and the client rooms have had the oldest carpet in the building (ten years old at best).

Thanks MSA. I'm in a great place now. I go to work. Do work. And people are nice to me. It seems simple. But I treasure it now that I have it again.

Other good news:
My son's grades have rebounded. Thanks for the input (from you and everyone on the board). It really helped.
Also, my stress fracture has healed. (Don't know if I shared this before.) I've been running again for the past 2 weeks, and I was able to run 5 miles last night. It was great. Key learning point here: stress fractures suck!

Sorry Zeek, but I gave up on Lost a few episodes in. It played too much on the fantasy/reality angle and added a semi known cast for appeal. When the story started to go all wierd is when they lost me. Not that it was hard to keep up with. More like they played on its predictability by trying too hard to be unpredictable. Lost, American Idol, and Survivor made me really stop watching TV altogether for almost to years.

One day of work before mini vacation. Yay!

The first season I thought the characters were really interesting. What motivated them, how they changed when they were around a ton of strangers and could reinvent themselves. That's all gone though and it's clear that the whole show, characters, rules of reality, whatever will be changed at any time to get to a specific scene the writers think will be cool. It's very annoying. Still now that I've gone this far I might as well see it through. Though I think my boycott of J.J. Abrams will not be lifted by the end of the show. I think I'll conclude he's just a hack.
