Oh yeah - almost forgot about that one.
Defoe really was a creepy Schreck. By the way, "Max Schreck" translates from German as "Most Horrible" or "Most Frightening". Curiously appropriate, eh?

Just now watching "Dracula AD 1972"- what a hoot.
If ONLY they would do a FAITHFUL adaption of "I Am Legend" for the screen...THAT'S a scary vampire take.

A faithful adaptation of I Am Legend would be amazing, I'm still undecided as to whether I liked the Will Smith version or The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price better.
30 Days of Night is a great vampire flick, it's extremely atmospheric and well shot, which is the standout for me. Lots of folks didn't think much of it I seem to remember, but I don't really understand why.
Let the Right One In is a GREAT vampire flick, absolutely STUNNING. I managed to see it around this time last year at a film festival, before any of the hype had started. Almost didn't see it. "Swedish film about child vampires? Meh." but ended up going anyway (saw 43 films in the space of 2 weeks...got a 'passport' that allowed me to see any film I wanted over the 2 week festival) and it was one of the best of the festival. That and In Bruges.
My point from this was meant to be, while it's a fantastic flick, I'm not sure it's particularly creepy. Maybe in a few scenes, but that's not the overall feel that the flick really goes for.
I've still got to see Dracula has Risen from the Grave AND Shadow of the Vampire (I own both!) but I'm glad to hear they're good.

Langella Dracula sucks.
Hammer absolutely rules. Atmospheric, awesome British acting.
I really like
-Horror of Dracula(probably the best)
-The Scars of Dracula(Dracula at his most fierce).
I could go on all day about the Hammer flicks. I grew up on "Creature Feature" a Saturday afternoon show that played all the great monster films.
And late Saturday nights I watched "Son of Svengoolie" Another monster show that had a zany host, and introduced me to one of my favorite horror flicks...Shockwaves.
Oh, and the 1979 version of Nosferatu starring Klaus Kinski. It's a little long, but man is it creepy.
