Despite meaning "little sister," I'm under the impression that mei-mei is a term of affection towards any younger girl, regardless of actual family relationship. So I think you can call a good friend mei-mei, your cousin, your aunt (if by some circumstance they're younger than you, it does happen), and even possibly your daughter.

Thats what I though, Bytemite. Similar to the word 'Ate' in Filipino (my best friend is from the Philippines, so I know these things) but Ate is in regards to anyone older than you. It shows respect, of a sort.
