I'd be lying if I said I did.

If'n it's a Burn Notice reference, I hang my head in shame.

Zoe: "Get it running again."
Mal: "Yeah"
Zoe: "So not running now"
Mal: "Not so much"
- Out of Gas

Then I shall attempt to translate.

"Burn Notice is a wonderful television programme, don't you think? I follow it regularly and am exctited to see the events play out before me, kind sir. People who do not share my point of view may go jump off a cliff."

Am I close?

Well, I've got a bit of a secret weapon - the Time Warner (Scientific Atlanta) DVR is pretty dead-simple to program. Just find the show you want, tell it to record all the first-run episodes (so it doesn't pick up re-runs or re-airings at 3:00am). And then I can dump them down to a different unit I bought - a Philips DVD recorder with its own hard drive. With that I can delete the commercials and then drop them down to a disk, four episodes at a time.

I like the DVD-R unit, but I feel Philips rather rushed it to market. I deem it not quite ready for primetime. It's a bit quirky. And it doesn't recognize (or record or burn) anything higher than 480i resolution, so recording HD programs is a bit of a waste.

I'm thinking of trying to drop HD programs to an old 4-head VCR unit I've got, and then seeing if I can take that analog signal and drop it onto the DVD hard drive, to see if it holds any higher resolution than 480i. It's probably a stretch, but I'll try it if I get bored.

Meanwhile, stuff that isn't broadcast in HD gets dropped to the DVD-R unit, and Time Warner's HD DVR lets me record HD and watch it in all its glory.

And yes, it has spoiled me!

By the way, if I'd seen Burn Notice for $16.99, I'd have bought it, definitely. I just pre-ordered Season 3 of Dexter for $27.99.

Seriously I just lent the first season to a guy at work and two days later he told me his Dad had already finished it and wanted to know when he could have some more. News of this release is definitely most welcome.

There you go Chris, a DA reference for you.
