No way. She insists that it is not as hard as she is making it and that everyone else she knows had easier pregnancies and complained very little.

Of course many of them weren't putting up with children on the hard side of dealings and adults who should already know how to deal with them. Some of them weren't working at all and others had a much better support systems than long distance family, bratty dogs, and a husband that can be doing more.

so here's a ponder: subliminal fireflyization. is it possible?
i've been trying to convert my boyfriend forever, but he refuses to watch and the episodes he *does* catch when he walks in and im watching he's all 'meh' about. i dont know why, cuz i havent met a single person yet who doesnt like the series.
I've quoted firefly a lot around him, and i mean a *lot* just in casual conversation, and he's always been able to catch the quotes (it usually goes *quote* bf: "..thats a firefly quote isnt it?")
well, the other day he was over at my house, and i cant for the life of me remember what we were watching, but my dad says something, then the bf quoted Jayne. i can't for the life of me remember the exact phrase (i'll have to go back and watch the series again to pick it out), but i turned to him with a smile and said 'thanks Jayne.' he looks at me funny and i tell him, 'you just quoted Jayne word for word from Firefly.' course he flips out because he 'hates' that show.
then, a few days later, we're reclining in bed watching a movie, and i'm tired so i turn over and close my eyes. he pushes me to try to keep me awake. i groan, he goes, 'come on. sleepiness is weakness of character.' so i smiled, looked up at him, and said 'thanks Wash.' i couldnt stop giggling, and when he gave me a weird look again i said 'u just quoted Wash from Firefly.' and he flips out again "THAT'S TWICE!!"
i think i might be able to convert him this way XD lolz
i wonder if i can get him to quote the whole crew...

lol, he has a pretty good (albeit sarcastic at times) sense of humor, he's conservative, not very religious (at least that ive been able to tell thus far), waaaaaaaaaaaaay prefers beef over soy XD
for some reason he just cant get into firefly. but i still think the random quoting is hilarious.
oh, and he's never. ever. seen a single star wars movie, not even the original trilogy.

I love how he says he could be doing more as he worked all day came home did dishes and is cooking dinner.. and what did I do...sit on the couch and drink ginger ale... he definitely could not be doing any more! He's sooooooo amazingly supportive and helpful and sweet:)

Really I'm ok it's just the throwing up and constant nausea... other than that and the lack of sleep it's all good:) And I'm informed it may improve shortly

Hmmmmm . . . . then you'd have to be REAL careful as to which episode you showed him.

My wife was iffy on watching it, but as I said in another thread, she's hooked on Nathan Fillion because of "Castle". That got her more interested in "Firefly". She got up to "Safe" and kinda buggered out on me with "Out of Gas" (my favorite episode ). She said it was too weird for her. I really want to get her to "Ariel" because the scenes where the crew is learning the medical jargon just gets funnier every time I see it. "We applied them electrodes!"

The up side is that my wife loves the BDM line from "Safe". She keeps saying, "What comes after 'Big damn heroes' again?" Ain't we just!

I'll get her hooked yet. My problem is telling the same people over and over again to watch it and they just . . . won't. Grrrrr.

lolz i have the same issue with a friend of mine. she found Nathan through Dr. Horrible, then started watching Castle when it came on, now she's tryna go back through Firefly cuz of Nathan. she watched Serenity Parts 1&2 and was like 'i am so confused' "about what?" 'just...everything, i guess?' "i could try to break it down for u.." 'its just, its so complex. i'll have to watch it again.'
this is why i'd rather watch it with my friends there so if they have a question they wont be lost ><;; course i dont know if she was trying to watch and write a paper at the same time, which might be reason for confusion :\ hopefully i can get her to watch more.

as for the bf, @_@ i'll have to keep pushing, though that hasnt worked with star wars yet -_-''

I really don't know about people who don't like Firefly. I just can't see how a person could watch it and not get something out of it? Every single episode has it's hilarious moments. Even if you hate the plot the funny should be enough to redeem it. I don't know if I could date someone who wasn't willing to give it a fair shot. That's one thing that I think really hurts Joss. It's like he intentionally weeds out closed minded people from his audience. With Buffy he was basically saying "if you can't get past vampires or the goofy name Buffy then I don't want you watching my show anyway". Which is all well and good if you didn't need ratings to keep a show alive. Bah!

So, FLT tell the bf I think he's closed minded and not good enough for you. :-P See if that helps.

Okay, I get how people could miss and not watch Firefly. But Star Wars? Really?

I thought it was the "I'm too cool to watch Science Fiction" mentality that kept people away from such things. But I kinda figured out underlaying reasons. Homophobia, emotional insecurity, and ignorance.

Okay, I might be reaching, but the biggest homophobes are the people who are insecure with their own feelings and fear becoming "one of them". Whether it be s sci-fi geek or flaming homosexual those people only see their exaggerated sides.

I hate Will and Grace. That damn show perputrated a crime against gay people and the non-gays who love them. It tells America that it is okay to stick your big gay ass in anyones face who does not agree with you.

It is not okay. I don't walk around slapping women in the face with my schlong because I'm the consumate tough guy. I won't belittle another man because of his average (of which he's been told is small by the media) penis. I have no reason to tell a woman her breasts are too small and her rear is too large. And I won't walk around bashing gay people because they don't do it "the way Gawd intended".

The emotional content that remains in the media is really one of the last true forms of expression we have left. Oral tradition is all but dead since we now have easy internet access (Blashemy, I know) and stupid text speak. I have kids in my facility that read at a fourth grade level. I see kids who have trouble communicating an opposing teams position on the field. And we all know the kid who cannot spit a sentance without a cuss word.

And now we suffer the "reality" shows of the day. I'm still determined to find the patterns in Idol and Survivor that make people dumber than they already are. Funny, American Idol. Idol: an image or other material object representing a deity to which religious worship is addressed. American Idol: Distracting people from how shitty we really are. I love George Carlins bit on Americas wars with brown people. First it was this group of people then that group of people. Soon it will be all those groups against America. We're already outnumbered. Distract from that.

Like I said; reaching. But the issues we refuse to face in person do find a way in somewhere eventually. Speaking from personal experience I can say that I have dealt with many issues through various forms of media. Leaving friends behind, issues with my father and lack thereof, coming to terms with my sins, they have all been translated through film and TV in some form. I'm glad to have faced tham and will be eternally grateful to the makers of those things for bringing them up.

What are the issues people are unwilling to face at the request of the people that love them? That may be the question of the day.

Meh, it's meant more as an analogy for being sexually overbearing. Not that all guys who sleep with a lot of women and gloat about it are secretly gay, but I know some who are. They just can't be bothered with being themselves openly because they live in a ranching community and have family in higher social standing. Good thing for them there is a Navy base nearby huh.

I was really hating on someone yesterday morning. Stupid dreams can do that. Good thing I have a wife that makes stuff better. I might have to reciprocate some hurt on someone who deserves it.

I know. I get what you're saying too. I really couldn't stand Will and Grace. I thought it was a sad commentary on us that the show was so popular.

I remember making fun of Star Wars as a kid. I thought it was just a movie for nerds. The I saw it on video and was like "dang this is awesome" and I slowly realized I'm a nerd. Browncoats are pretty much a bunch of nerds and they're great people. I think that one of the best parts of browncoats is how open and inviting they are. That's part of why I'm not so sure about people who don't like Firefly. I think it reflects more on who they are than on the show.

Hmm I think you'd have to taste it sweety. Doesn't really taste or have the texture of what Americans consider fudge. It's grainier and has a more defined strata of flavour.It's really nothing like US fudge:)

OK I really had not realized how decaffeinated I had become. I ordered a small real hot chocolate ( made with cocoa, milk , etc) it's only got 15 mg of caffeine in it and I am jumpy as a hamster on no doz... argh

mmmmm no doz. i remember the time a kid in my class downed several of those (or were they just caffeine pills....no i think they were no doz), on top of that he had already had three cups of coffee, two cokes, and one of those tall can energy drinks. had chest pains that afternoon...

Sadly for me caffeine isn't ok even in small quantities... just that little bit meant I spent yesterday throwing up over and over for hours, then I ate something and it stayed down, but I had stomach cramps and was generally ill for many hours.... thing is I quit caffeine over 10 years ago and my system just can't take even a little tiny bit...well obviously

I've never gotten the whole caffeine thing. I mean I don't drink coffee or energy drinks, but I drink pop a bunch. I've never felt wired from it. Nor have a felt like I'm missing something when I don't drink it (I've given pop up for Lent a few times). I think I'm immune. That's my theory at least.

Can't think of a food off hand that makes me feel all icky if I eat even a little. I'm a picky eater though. So, I keep my diet set to foods that don't make me feel icky and I don't stray from from the list.

Front teeth hates cold stuffs

Okay, so I'm in a bit of a better mood today. Hating on people who do things then bitch that they had to do them later and make me feel like I'm not doing enough.

My boss does this. She is so far involved with other programs, obligations that are not hers, and personal events that she neglects the here and now.

We are suffering her because she has to have the perfect house and the perfect wedding. Sorry if she makes it harder for herself but we have our own shit to worry about. Plus we are supposed to be updating policy and rules for the facility and it isn't getting done. It wouldn't matter as much but this is interfering with a list of directives she gave me. It'll end up being my fault that those things aren't done even though as the Facility Manager she is supposed to change those things with me and the Case Manager.

So, taking it upon myself I will re-write our policy and procedure manual, re-write all of the rules, consequences and objectives for the clients, and finish the fucking level system she wants implemented that she was so keen on having input on.

All to appease her need to look good for everyone.

That, and, you know, to keep my job.

The way I think of it seems to agree. If I'm happy eating the food I like then I should just stick to eating that (assuming it's not totally unhealthy of course). Sure there might be a food I like more out there somewhere, but if I don't know about it then what's the harm. As far as I know I'm eating the best thing out there. Based on the small sampling of food I've tried the odds seem to be that new foods have a low percentage chance that I will like them. Therefore searching for better tasting foods will result in me eating a higher percentage of food I don't like in my lifetime than if I just eat the food I already know that I like.

The things I really really really don't understand is the foods that are "acquired tastes". You're telling me that my initial reaction is "yuck!" but if I just keep at it I can train myself to like it? When does that get fun? I also tend to think our tastebuds work the way they do for a reason. They seem to know that spoiled food is bad. Therefore I'm going to trust that when they tell me something tastes bad that they know what they're talking about. Can't necessarily trust them on the good side of things though. Mad scientists have learned what gets the "yum" reaction and throw it into food by the boat load just to get us addicted. Jerks!

well I do know that some foods/ tases that I disliked when I was younger Inow like a lot
( mustard on sandwiches for example) so your tastes do change and a lot of people have an initial yuck response to unfamiliar foods so trying something more than once can be good because you never know if you might really like something once you got past your first response to the unfamiliar:)

lolz, what i find interesting is how u can like something at one point in your life, and later on you wont even go *near* it. that happened with me and strawberries. apparently when i was little i loved them, no i can't stand the taste of them. tomatoes are slowly starting to grow on me though, i used to hate em except in ketchup, now i'll eat em every once in a while without cringing. ^_^

I'd come right out and tell them that it is too loud, joke semi-seriously that the younger generation is supposed to be the ones playing everything too loud, so if you think their tv is too loud it has to be rather excessive. From there, lead into the talk about getting tested.

If they still aren't convinced, explain your concerns that it could be ruining your hearing. If all else fails, invest in earplugs.

Well, if that's the way that you word it, you'll probably not get a response. Try stepping out of the parent/child roles and really sit down and have a serious conversation with them. If possible, have the conversation at a time when they aren't watching the television. Don't make it an argument, keep everything calm and rational. The last thing you want is your parents thinking that you are acting like a petulant child.

they dont know how to have a serious conversation with me. when i try calmly expressing any concern at all they twist their rationalization the opposite way and tell me i'm wrong and it's not an issue; or they tell me i'm overreacting. it's like we're not even on the same page. it's just frustrating trying to talk to them when i know they're not going to listen to me ><;; at least that's how i feel. if i told them that they'd probably tell me 'we *doooo* listen to you, it's just that--i dont know where you're getting these ideas, when have we ever not listened to you or understood you?'
they listen to my brother more than they listen to me, and granted, he's older, but holy shit i'm not grown up? i joined the military at seventeen and went away and didn't (couldn't) rely on them at all, they tell me they're proud but clearly don't consider me grown up still? i know the military isn't a justification for that but can they give me some freaking credit? my brother considers me more grown up than they do, which is kind of a switch considering older siblings generally always think of their younger siblings as always being the little bratty kid that they can't ever see growing up. [/rant]

I understand what you're going through. The transition from child to adult in your parent's eyes is extremely difficult, partially because of ingrained habits (I tend to act more childishly around my parents, letting them take the lead in any situation, even when it's something that I would handle myself if they weren't there, just because that's how we've always related) and partially because parents don't want to see their children as adults. You're just going to have to figure it out on your own, because every situation is different. I don't think my parents actually started to see me as an adult until I got engaged, and even then they were a bit shocked, thinking I am too young to marry, even though I'm the same age my mother was at their wedding.

However, the problem might not be with seeing you as an adult. Future mother-in-law will do the same thing, she'll listen to what I have to say, then categorically ignore my concerns. It's annoying, but it's a personality trait that I need to work around. It's not that she doesn't think that I'm an adult, but rather that she simply doesn't want to see my side of things.
