...which is preceisely the point of a helmet....to reduce trauma. And the angle would have greatly reduced not only the force, but the ammount his head would have jerked - thus lessening the impact on the brain.
Have someone whack him directly in the noggin with something that delivers equal force directly to the forehead, without penetration obviously, and I'd wager his ass is taking a nap.

Have only watched X3 a couple times - I don't remeber the specific moment, so I can't say for sure. Would depend on the size, speed and angle of the shrapnel. Also, since he was actively fighting, as opposed to taking a sucker bullet (so to speak), I would say there are a number of circumstances that set the events apart.

I remember the cigar bit, but not the medal. Really, I felt that whole sequence was somewhat poorly done anyway, probably the lowpoint of the movie.

In my basement is a treadmill, a small workout bench, and an old crappy TV. If I play 300 on that TV while on the treadmill I NEVER fail to have a good workout. 300 is not a perfect film by any stretch but there is just something about it pulls every ounce of power out of my body.
That makes it special in a unique way.
Watchmen was impressive too. Zach Snyder is doing very well by me.
