'...Universal will develop "Major Matt Mason," a live-action feature based on the vintage Mattel action figure. Pic will be developed as a star vehicle for Tom Hanks, and Graham Yost will write the script...

The toy line originated in 1966; Mason led an astronaut team that worked on the moon and lived in a space station. The toy was a hit in the buildup to the first manned moon mission. Mattel retired the line in the 1970s.

When Mattel execs Tim Kilpin and Barry Waldo came to Playtone for a meeting, they brought an arsenal of the Matt Mason figures. Hanks came armed with his own.'

This marks me as a true Geek and probably the spawn of geeks. When my parents passed away, we cleaned out the family home before selling it. I took home a bunch of boxes without opening them as I was emotionally spent. Well over the ensueing years, I have summoned up the courage to go through these boxes. One one the last ones that I just went through recently had all my very well used Maj. Matt Mason stuff. I have the good major on my desk at work as I write this. I am glad Mom or Dad put it away rather than tossing it.

I'll probably go see the movie. It will not live up the the fantasies I had when me and the three other geeks in my neighborhood with Maj. Matt Mason stuff got together and explored Mars and the moons of Saturn, but I'll go ;-)

I didn't have all of it, but I wanted it ;-) It was the standard Xmas gift for me for about three or four years, my sibs would look through by stuff and then just get what ver wasn't there for me.

Then as now, they didn't completely understand me, but they put up with me ;-)

Did something similar. Carpet tubes made great passageways between modules!

Are we the only two geeks that know who Maj. Matt Mason is?
