Remember that movie, "Death at a Funeral", by Frank Oz that was released in 2007?

Well they're remaking it.

Why?

Well, since it wasn't set in the United States, I guess the poor minimally intelligent American audience couldn't understand it.

So thank dog we have Chris Rock to sort things out for us!!!

The British producers are helping Rock steal their own film, there's big money to be made if it's a hit here. There are not alot of original ideas in Hollywood anymore.

It's a British production that was barely even seen in this country (9 million gross), with no stars. I doubt it has much at all to do with where it was set - lots of non-American set films do fine. It's far more likely to do with someone thinking it's a strong concept, that didn't connect, and no-one saw, and maybe it's worth another shot. This happens every year, often to more widely-know films. I don't see what the big deal is.

well personally I think they could re-do this material into a very different and equally funny film w/this new all Black cast...
I don't think it takes anything away from the brilliance of the very British comedy by doing the same (similar?) material from a totally non-British POV.

It is kind of like how Ugly Betty has been done and redone by different countries, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Or like the Office: both the British version and the US version are really excellent shows...

So personally I'm glad they hired Ron Glass and I hope the remake is as good (in its own completely different way)

Good point on the cultural aspect. Can't imagine the two versions will come off as all that simmilar.

Wierd that both versions will have a Firefly alum.

oh are you serious!!!! HAs Hollywood not got anything older it can remake/steal? next thing you know they'll be remaking "Slumdog Millionaire" and setting it in a trailer park somewhere in the many socially neglected parts of the USA. Naturally the remake will be a huger commercial success than the original. dear me.
