The tough list: What order do you rank these classic sci-fi films?

Plus, it was directed by a guy who's previous claim to fame was making twee, nostalgic adverts for wholemeal bread - gotta love the irony.
Missing - think they've all been mentioned: Matrix 1; Brazil and/or 12 Monkeys; the Star Wars Episode of your choice (I'd go for "A New Hope" - it stuck to its Saturday serial roots without getting pretentions) and Close Encounters (the un-about-with version that knew when to hand the job over to your imagination).
1. Kubrick=Pure cinema heaven.
2.Blade Runner. May not be up to the book, but the story is still very intriguing on film. Atmosphere is just the icing on the cake.
3. Planet of the Apes, the most thought provoking film on the list in my opinion.
4. Silent Running, yeah thinking I should have switched this with Close Encounters....oh well.
5.Alien was more atmospheric than Aliens. Aliens is better. Cameron filmed Aliens in the UK, and apparently almost killed the entire crew in a fit of rage over their tea breaks. This is the same genius that brought us Titantic

Biggest pet peeve about the movie for me? It should have been funnier, given it's total lack or realism, that would have been a saving grace IMO.

Almost any scifi can be picked apart if you wish, including Serenity.
And I am so very glad they didn't make it funny. Not everything should be jokey. They offered Will Smith the role of Neo, and he wanted to add comedy, so they went with Keanu. Even Smith says now that he would have probably ruined the whole thing had they gone the way he wanted them to.
