There's a post from the Colbert Nation forums that smacks of a challenge to see just which fanbase has more time on their hands. Basically they're cheating the system.

Thankfully the poll IS bot-proof, but not crazed-with-time-on-their-hands-fan-proof. Someone help me think up an appropriate Firefly quote for this situation? If it's any consolation, Xenu fans seem as up in arms about losing their top suggestion space as we are about Colbert being there. They've declared war too. ;)

Edited.

From contest rulles on the website:

Quote:

NASA will take into consideration the results of the voting. However, the results are not binding on NASA and NASA reserves the right to ultimately select a name in accordance with the best interests of the agency, its needs, and other considerations. Such name may not necessarily be one which is on the list of voted-on candidate names. NASA’s decision shall be deemed final.

I don't think that NASA will choose 'Colbert', so I say we keep voting for 'Serenity' and see what happens.

They can try to cheat but I don't think it will work.

Quote:

Any number of entries are allowed, up to one vote per user per day. NASA reserves the right to curtail abusive activity, including but not limited to, automated voting, denial of service attempts, disrupting, harming, tampering with, or maliciously interfering with NASA’s web sites and the like, by suspending the perpetrator’s participation in the contest.

Keep on voting!

Good point--I was talking with my mouth I guess. Here, I'll give myself a quote: "Man of honor in a den of thieves." Let's see honor (not cheating) prevail. :)

The site still shows Serenity at 86 percent, and

Top 10 Suggestions with COLBERT at the top.

and

127709 users have voted or submitted a name so far

I checked the number of votes right after I heard Stephen mention the voting. Just under 101,000 at around 2:50 AM Eastern. Now it's just under 128,000? That 27,000 votes in under 12 hours. We might be on top for another day or two, but even if voting for Colbert dies down considerably, we will be done for soon. I say we send a letter (or letters) to Colbert's people, asking that Colbert tell his fans to change their vote to Serenity (or something like that. Tell him about our fight for more Firefly or... SOMETHING. Maybe he would mention us Browncoats on the show, while he crushed us, at the least (no, probably not, I know). Anyway, still doing my voting. It's pointless, but I'm not giving up without a fight... well, it's going to be more like a whimper, but whatever.

Perhaps we don't want to win this one.

Really.

A puny little module?

Let's hold out for the flagship of NASA's new line of space shuttles.

I don't know if or when they'll make 'em, but hey, I'm nothing if not patient.

Do they usually do this name voting with shuttles? I've never heard of that, but that doesn't mean anything. Also, I have a thread going over on Colbert's boards. It's here: http://forum.colbertnation.com/tcr/board/message?board.id=TCR&message.

Post there, maybe we can get the attention of someone that has something to do with the show?

Hey, yeah. If he beats us, we can at least go for a mention on his show. That'd be good publicity for the cause... Maybe. If it's not delivered in the sense of "look at these silly fools we have beaten," but instead "today we have defeated a worthy adversary."

Can I start making references to Serenity Valley?
