I don't know how current you are with this season but there was an episode where Dean catches a fear virus. This episode contained some of the funniest moments I have seen on any show in years.

Yeah I saw that episode Singate. It was very funny indeed. Can't wait to buy the lot as a box set (hopefully) I was disappointed that season one came with no extras. Maybe they'll do a release once everything is wrapped with some added.

I've finally finished Season One (and was openly cringing when the car got smashed. Is it bad that I was more worried about the Impala than I was about everyone else? 
). I should start on next season today.
I was wondering though, I've heard that Season Three was one of the weaker seasons. Does anyone here feel that way?

In the grand scheme of things there will always be a weak season. As far as I'm concerned it isn't season three, I'm not entirely sure I feel any of the seasons are weak. Guess it depends what you like from a show though... I'd elaborate but I don't want to spoil anything for you.
Anyway I hope you continue with the show. Oh and YES shame on you for worrying about the Impala! :D

I would say season 3 is a bit weaker because it was cut short by the writers strike. It's not that the episodes are bad it just feels like the overall arch of the season wasn't as fleshed out. There were a couple of episodes I didn't care for but that has happened in every season. I guess it was magnified by the shorter schedule. It was still as good as anything else on TV.
As far as the Impala goes you have every right to be concerned. The boys spend a great deal of time alternating between a Dodge Dart and an AMC Pacer. It's a bit more difficult to look cool in those rides.
Get to season 2 as quickly as possible, you won't be disappointed.

While there have been weak individual episodes, there has NOT been a "weak season", at least in my opinion. This show, more than any other that is on the air, reminds me of - and very nearly takes me right back into - the Buffyverse. I love it. There are even some of the same demons that they have to deal with, and they tend to be somewhat consistent with the Whedonverse versions of them.
And for me at least, Supernatural IS better than Heroes. It's got better writing, snappier dialog, more wit, and more engaging characters.
DeepGirl, hurry up and catch up! I think I can safely say you won't be disappointed.

I really liked the season opener, particularly Dean's discussion with the Reaper. I have to wonder if the fact that he didn't die when he was supposed to is going to have repercussions later on down the line. And I was sad to see John go. I've wavered throughout the show wondering if he really loved his sons or if he was just a complete bastard, and I've come now to the conclusion he was more than a little of both. And in other news, I probably shouldn't have watched Grey's Anatomy before I saw this, because it really messes with your expectations.

Three things I've noticed:
1) They have to spend at least half their budget on licensing music. I mean, really. Not that I don't like the song choices, but it must really rack up.
2) Set design. I'm praying they get a bigger budget in future seasons, because I could swear I've seen the same motel room, the same cabin, and the same warehouse area at least fifty times.
3) I love the boys. Truly I do. But in many ways, I've found that my favorite character consistently has to be the Impala. Seeing it wrecked earlier was actually painful (and likewise, seeing it restored to all its glory was exhilarating). Is something wrong with me?

Ah well... I don't think you're going to get past that. As the show goes on it becomes quite evident that they're in Vancouver for most of the shoot. That just can't be helped. But cinematography continues to be outstanding, and the special effects start to really look pin sharp at times.

No, that makes sense....The Impala becomes the third crew member for the Winchester's. Similar to SERENITY being the tenth crew member for Firefly. I think you're ok. :D
