50s - Gunsmoke

60s - Star Trek

70s - MASH

80s - Star Trek - The Next Generation

90s - The West Wing

00s - The Shield

Sorry, Firefly, but I've got 7 seasons of The Shield versus a half-season of Firefly. And the worst episode of The Shield was still pretty damned good TV.

If I included premium-cable shows, I'd have The Wire on there somewhere, too.

I'd add TTSCC to 00's except I haven't seen much this decade.

How did I forget South Park?

While recently thinking about this thread, I realized there must not be many Fox Network fans in this thread.
Gunsmoke?
Bonanza?
Rawhide?
Kung Fu?
Zorro?
Hopalong Cassidy?
Firefly?

Aren't those, like, westerns?

I'm (not) sorry, but I'm right there with cljohnston
It is without a doubt the best show thats come along in a while. Ok, so theres the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, which I might have to agree on occasion is a better show - but LOST proves to be everything a good tv show should be
Emphasis on character, through the use of flashbacks and later flashforwards (i dont think thats a spoiler by now) was an ingenius way in getting into the heads of the characters
Plus its got an intriguing set of questions which are slowly being answered. Yes, I dont care that the show takes its time, at least we're getting the answers. In fact if theres anything bad to be said about these latest episodes its that things are going at so fast a pace, with lots of information being revealed, that i miss the days when it took its time.

I cant believe nobodys mentioned ANGEL(or maybe they've had and I missed it). IMHO it was a much stronger show than Buffy, which had most of season 5 and 6 producing duff episodes. Apart from a few missteps during season 4, it was consistently good. One of the best pilots, one of the best series finales, and a hell of a lot fantastic episodes in between. ANGEL (if it hadnt been for LOST and BSG, would have been my next choice)

I was born in the 80s and didn't really develop a passion for watching serialised tv until MY SO-CALLED LIFE in the mid 90s
However my choice for show of that decade undoubtedly belongs to THE X FILES. I was already a borderline geek anyway growing up with Star Wars and all its toys and comics, but X FILES brought out the obsessive fan, and collector in me. And it still holds up to this day
(pfff, Supernatural)
