Hi all,

I have a blog about costuming, and what can I say? I'm partial to Firefly because it rules:) Anyway, I'm looking to do a feature on Firefly costumes and was wondering if anyone would like to contribute photos and info about how/why they made the costumes. I'll provide a full link to your website or blog, if you have one.

Thanks!
Tara

Hi Tara,
I took a look at your site and it looks great. I probably am not the best person to post here first, but you got me so here goes. I have not yet made a costume for me in the Firefly 'verse, because I have not yet decided on what it should be. With the usual firefly outfit I've seen, I get the feeling that people usually ask themselves who they want to be, because they identify themselves with a particular character from the show. That is not the case with me though, and I am tending towards becoming a purple belly, but I could also maybe become just another person in the 'verse by studying the garb of the latter 19th century.

Thanks for your response, Rallem! I think those are great reasons for costume selection. I always struggle with the fact that I look very much like Kaylee (and have that personality, too), but love the glamorous aspects of Companion life (and their clothes and political/social sway).

I haven't seen too many Alliance costumes out there; I guess they aren't the most popular guys in the 'verse...hehe.

I'd also be interested in finding an inexpensive way to do the Mal outfit. The real brown coat is ridiculously expensive.

If I could find a set of Starship Troopers armor, I should be able to pqaint it purplish.

I should probably let her tell you, but I think she's indisposed at the moment. ThatWeirdGirl from this site runs a costume blog called http://www.thatcostumegirl.com

On her site are several pictures of some Firefly costumes she's made, including the Ariel EMT costumes, complete with shiny badges. There's a few pictures in her Companion costume (I think), and at least one of her Kaylee costume in there too.

Either way, they're in there somewhere.

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Hope that helps.

I got to see that costume up close & personal. It's well-done, really amazing.
Folks here in Charlotte have said that she definitely deserved to win a place in our costume contest last year.
