Good morning browncoats!

First of all let me say that I did not watch this first episode of “Dollhouse”. Oh…I was home and very able to see the show but I didn’t. For those browncoats that did tune in and see it, I will say that you ARE better than me.

I came to FFF.net this morning on the express reason of seeing what was being said post DH. Seems there’s a little mixture of opinions going on. First of all if it didn’t seem like “Joss” then likely it’s because it wasn’t.

F*>< will not let this man do anything he wants the way he wants to do it, why should they? It’s about power and they show constantly it isn’t about a property being good, bad or entertaining it’s about the power and domination. These people are “parliament and alliance“. Has everyone here forgotten about DRIVE? I watched TM’s show fall right off the screen of my television on this network and although I love Summer I don’t watch TSCC either.

Yes, giving DH and Joss support is the right thing to do and I’m happy that so many fans are doing that. Sorry, I ain’t one of them! I don’t feel that making DH a hit will result in any new BDM for us or will open up a can of a fresh FF series. It may help DH and it may help F*>< but I ain’t about helping F*><. What I am about is trying to get Universal and NBC to put something together for us FF fans. Joss wasn’t finished with the stories of the verse ( he said so himself) and I wasn’t finished watching them. Can’t big TV ENTERTAINMENT see that?!!

Sorry but I’m damn hardheaded and I know it. Ask my wife she’ll tell ya I’ve got a head like brix up there…..lol. I’ll stay the course as long as I feel there’s hope for Serenity. Otherwise I’ll get on that transport and they can fly me into the nearest sun. Am I wrong for loving the characters of that short run tv show? Maybe, but I’ll just be wrong! I’ve put up my feelings about F*>< here before. Got a lot of good insight from fellow browncoats too. A person feels the way they feel and can’t help it I do understand. But I ain’t ready to play nice!! Not when the folks of big networks do what they do, they may change but they remain the same, understand my meaning? I tell my own boss when I feel he’s wrong and he knows it. I still do my job but I ain’t about being a “Yes” man. I’ll still follow Joss as long as he doesn’t take off his browncoat. I hope to GOD he doesn’t cave in to the “MAN”. I still see him as an independence brother fighting next to me in the trenches…….that’s it for now.

I agree Chris - how many Buffy fans were out-and-out disappointed with Firefly when it aired? I wasn't hooked until OMR myself. I plan on giving Dollhouse many shots as well.

I rather liked it. The beginning was weak and reeked of Fox, but the writing during the mission segment was very tight, and the it ended strongly, I thought. Looking forward to next week's ep!

I really liked Dollhouse too. It brought out a lot of questions about the fundamentals of personality, and hopefully we'll get answers too. The show hit me the way Dr. Horrible did - at first I wasn't sure what to think. Then by suspending my expectations I was able to see the creative art behind the show and wonder at what the different layers of meaning will reveal. I'm in for the ride!

I see SO MUCH potential to expand & amaze, it all depends on the next few ratings.

I confess myself not entertained. I'll keep watching, of course; the concept has a lot of intriguing aspects. I'll give it at least a month to blossom into the kind of entertainment Joss does so well before I give up.

I think it has been established that Joss has problems with abuse of power, human experimentation, and abused women. It's no wonder these themes were prominent in the first episode. I concur with the sentiment that it did not feel like a Joss show but I get the feeling this was due to whatever rewrites he was asked to do. Almost felt like a hybrid of his storytelling mixed with elements that would appeal to a broader audience.

When I first heard the premise of the show I had my doubts about Eliza's ability to play a wide range of characters. She did a pretty good job. I think it was something of an inside joke when her client made the comment about how people feel when they are in the presence of a beautiful woman.

I enjoyed seeing Amy Acker. I would have liked it better if she wasn't listed as a guest star. How is it the Dollhouse has mastered the ability to alter the mind but they are not able to repair her facial scars? Unless of course she refused treatment as some kind of penance.

The most intriguing part of the show for me was the Alpha file. I'm guessing this was a former active or handler who is seeking retribution. If he was an active I wonder if all of them are referred to by military designations. Alpha, Baker, Charlie etc.

I liked the first episode althought I also found it disjointed and confusing periodically. It tried to do too much all at once. I too wish I could have seen the beginning as Joss intended it not as some network execs decreed, but the core is that I also saw a lot of potential. Some really great shows started slow Hill Street Blues, Fringe, West Wing, and a ton of others that got cancelled just as they were finding their stride. I am willing to stick with it and give it that chance. Please do the same.

I found the Dollhouse premiere a little better than average in quality, especially compared to most science fiction series over the years. It certainly offered some intriguing concepts and bits of dialogue, but also some action series cliches. If I weren't coming to it as a Firefly fan and Whedon supported, I think my chances of tuning in again would be about 50-50. As it is, I'll stick with it and see if it improves.
Watching the premiere, I was reminded of The Train Job and Serenity, the pilot. Like The Train Job, Dollhouse drops you into the middle of things before establishing the setting or the characters very well. Like Serenity, it had a short backstory segment tacked onto the beginning. It looks like the hand of network executives at work again, despite Whedon's protestations to the contrary.
