Wow. Joss and Fox got Star Wars Clone Wars to disappear. No competition on premier night, at least.
Bogus bike chase sans helmet in disco was lame, not exciting. I smell a Fox. White teddy "dress" was okay, I guess.
But it picked up the pace in the 2nd half.
That Doc Saunders is creepy. In a cute slutty way.

Well, the gal and I watched Dollhouse tonight, and I've gotta say we both gave it a resounding "meh..."
We'll keep watching it, but I don't really expect this show to do well. Friday night death slot, plus Fox tinkering usually means bad news.

My wife and I both greatly enjoyed tonight's pilot. The cold opening with (Not-yet) Echo's recruitment interview was vaguely reminiscent of the River Tam Sessions, the motorcycle chase scene was, if somewhat random, at least an interesting method of setting the premise up.
While I love Joss' hand at lighthearted banter, I can't say I honestly missed it tonight. The story was solid enough, the characterization was strong. (Her ex-cop handler looks likely to develop a moral disconnect with his employers sooner or later. . .)
I'm just hoping it does well enough in the overnights to survive long enough for a proper box set. . .

Schwarzenegger's "Total Recall" meets Bridget Fonda's "Point Of No Return". I like the girl, nothing else. The guy who operates the brain machine is an annoying putz, and the rest of it seems very contrived. And the organization's goal is to make money by helping rich people in trouble? With of course the obligitory FBI agent on their trail too. How un-original and boring. The dialogue was a bit lame & un-funny. Didn't seem like a Joss Whedon show, sorry. I like Sarah Connor Chronicles, so I'll give the Dollhouse another look next week.

There is one thing which left me... , what's the word, disappointed ? I mean, the whole tortured little girl routine. Been there, done that, like how many times?
I also find it curious that Echo's handler is an ex-cop, and there's a law man trying to bring down the Dollhouse. Might be insignificant, might not. *edit* I guess it was either that, or some two bit reporter for a tabloid magazine/ newspaper expose', trying to run down a story, ala NightStalker, The Hulk, etc....
There's lots of potential here, as we'd expect, but the question remains. Will it be given the chance to show us what its got before the sadistic souls in suits @ FOX do their dirty work ?

My first thought was "this is not Whedon".
It is exactly as other early reviewers have stated.
A very normal show. It's like a mix between The Matrix and tv shows like Medium, and CSI thrown in to a blender with a pinch of Angel for good measure.
That was my first thought.
My second thought was "this is brilliant tv". Amy Acker's clearly troubled character is just waiting to spring into full drama mode in later episodes for that true Whedony fix that we crave so much.
And Eliza as Echo...Don't even get me started. Vulnerable, tough, cool, and sad. There is something going on in this show folks. Let's hope it's around long enough for us to fully appreciate what it is.

Annoying putz. Yes, good word for him! I wasn't very thrilled. Is this the pilot Joss rewrote because he didn't like the first one? Wow, that one must've been bad. Also, were we supposed to understand the end at all? I sure didn't. At least there was a Firefly phrase: "What are we playing at?"
Did the Dollhouse look very much like the LA office's of Wolfram and Hart?
I watched most of Terminator, and I had no idea what was going. I haven't seen it for awhile, so that would explain things, but the episode seemed a bad anyway.
Let's face it, Friday night on Fox. One of these shows isn't going to survive.

And there's the rub. Keepin' a Joss ( or Tim Minear ) show on long enough for it to take hold. At least we got the gratuitous Eliza dancing in barely nothing at all scene in, so that's a good start.

I was happy all week anticipating the premiere. I enjoyed the show, I think it definitely beautiful, powerful and full of potential. I thought Eliza showed great range. I am sure it will only get better.
That said my favorite moment was the Mutant Enemy guy say "Grrr Arrgh!"
That made it real, Joss is back.
