Tell me about it; I did *horribly* in school. So bad, in fact, that I dropped out. Stayed out 10 years, worked my ass off at any job I could find, and then dropped in to college, where I kept a 4.0 GPA. Apparently some kinds of learning institutions agree with me more than others. Or I just needed to learn the discipline necessary to slog through the classes I didn't enjoy.

There's reasons for that, factually - ANY kid does more poorly in public school than otherwise, and that includes not just private or homeschooled, but even self-educated folk.

Most of whom you'd play merry hell getting to cooperate without some kind of incentive too, cause a lot of them (like me) are pissed that without the bullshit paper folks way dumber with more money and more time on their hands (as in 2-4 years of it) they are considered morons.

Believe me, a lot of anarchists are really bright, and a lot of them are more than a little psychotic about being perceived as loser idiots cause they didn't blow 30-80k and a couple years of their life on a piece of paper that says so.

So you have to take into account that the folks willing and able to pay the "Join the club fee", and willing to submit themselves to endless drudgery where the amount of "learning" is shall we say, more than debateble...

Are not in my opinion the sharpest pencils in the box, thankee verra much.

If being broke, in debt up to your eyebrows and wasting a couple years of your life to get the paper, and a the REST OF YOUR LIFE, trying to break even, cause yanno, the mortgage and the car payments, not to mention the rest of the bills... all with the tax bite on top, and never really breaking even as much as hoping your debts don't get passed on to your kids when you die (and one way or another, they do...) is being "smart" ?

I prefer unejikated. Glad to see you understand. It took me years to get this. I took a lot of random college classes to get me started on various hobbies, and I was always at the top of my class. Considering my own educational background: 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th grades, there was little to explain it. There was also little to explain why the children of the rich did so well at everything (better genes? better connections? better education? money can buy anything?) And then I came down to the simple answer that solves all of these questions:

Time. I simply had more free time than the rest of them, and rich kids had more free time than I. So that's the secret. And, oh, yeah, let me just reiterate the one sailient point here of Frems:

Boy do I not miss having that 100k debt that some of the folks I know have. There are plenty of pieces of paper out there that you can get for only 100k in debt that will enable you to make 100k incomes with if you're up for 80hrs/week of work, and 5k local tax, 15k in fica, 33k in fed tax, 8k in state tax, and don't mind relocating to some absurd local where it's 110 degrees and your house costs so much that you're paying 30k a year in mtgs. Yeah, I know more than a few people in this very position. Ah yes, they're successful. Well, A little quick addition and that looks like 9k in take home income (I know four off-hand who are actually burrowing themselves into more debt they're so successful.)

So, if that's success, might as well

The middle one is the best argument for 9/11 conspiracy theory I've ever run into, and apparently, this sort of thing is real: My brother who loathes conspiracy theories said after some study of Al Qaeda he found it hard to believe that they were a credible threat to anyone but themselves. Other people I've know who've dealt with them say things like, it's impressive if these guys can get a taxi to the right address in Baghdad, let alone put a bomb in it and not blow themselves up in the process. Their teen IQ is also dropping, and there's a lot of opium use involved. Not too astonishing that our own MORANS are running scared

Early on during this mess, one of the troops I had contact with made mention of the fact that like eighty percent of those car bombs were in american made cars, which are fairly rare over there from what I hear.

And then there was the iraqis catching some brits in the act of trying to plant one...

And then there was that really suspicious garage explosion, with a whole plenty crapload of secondaries that wiped out a buncha intel folk from a country that shall not be named...

Topped off with the ludicrous explaination that Al Qeada was running auto theft rings in the US to get the cars (Fox News, of course) which makes utterly no logistical sense.

His solution was simply to have his troops avoid american made cars when possible, since then he's lost none to carbombs.

Enough to make you wonder, that is.

It's funny that the media loves the image "suicide bomber" because it supports their position "monkey people don't value life." In an american city where carbombings are rarer, but not all that rare, the driver is usually called 'the victim' rather than 'the suicide bomber' because the assumption is that someone else put the bomb in his car. This is the assumption in the rest of the world. Every time I've looked into this muslims want to die because they believe they will get 72 virgins thing, it hasn't added up. I think generally a muslim wanted to go downtown and get some takeout, but someone had gone and put a bomb in his car. It's widely reported in the muslim world like that. Now, sometimes that person will be al qaeda types, sometimes it will be us, and there are a lot of stories of that. I don't know if either has specific targets in mind or just was trying to cause chaos. I remember when the IRA was doing it, they'd frequently get the wrong car, and occassionally blow themselves up setting it up. No one ever called them "suicide bombers" they just assumed the guys fucked up setting up the bomb.
