I recently started watching this (currently about three-fourths of the way through the first season). I guess I kind of wanted to hear people's thoughts on the show (if they do watch). Also, does anyone know of any LJ communities for the show? I looked but wasn't sure where to start exactly.

I missed most of the first season, but I've been watching it ever since. It is my favorite TV show right now, because it has a long arc. It's more like Buffy and Angel in that regard; however, I think this might be it's last season.

From my research I find that they planned to be on no more than 5 years if successful. They don't want to drag a great show out too long. I think that is wise.

Is this the 5th season? I think so. I don't want to say too much since the OP is still on seaon 1, but the reason I say I believe it is their last season is because of the story line. It parallels Buffy, season 7. Buffy as a tv series didn't have anywhere to go after that.

Season four is currently on and we are into the second half of that.
It's a great show that doesn't give you the brain lashing of Lost or BSG but is just a solid, sometimes fun spot of TV. The only paranormal show since Buffy or Angel to get close to those two.

Oh, don't worry, you can catch up.

I just got a couple of someones hooked on Supernatural myself. It is an awesome show; by turns funny and genuinely scary (as opposed to just gory for the sake of ratings, like some "horror" films/movies are).

I think what I've enjoyed the most so far is the exchanges between Sam and Dean. The monsters of the week are so-so, but where the show really shines is their relationship. And while I like both brothers, Jensen Ackles really does an amazing job with Dean.

There was one moment though that took me out of the show (but was also really funny in a way). The episode "Nightmare" is supposed to be set in Saginaw, MI, but as someone who lived in that city for five years, I can say with certainty that they did not do the homework on that one. Still, it was pretty humorous nonetheless.

I love it.

I love the interaction between the brothers, as well as the stories created. No, it isn't as heavy as BSG, but not everything has to be, does it?

In a way, it's a western format in its own right. Like Firefly, where a group went in with a ship to make things right (at least in Heart of Gold, and so long as the coin was right), the Winchester boys ride in in a 1967 Impala, do their job and move on.

That's just the bare bones of it. There is also an ongoing storyline involving the boys, but also a lot of humor. I currently own three seasons and have the fourth on pre-order from Amazon. I got my brother hooked on it too.

It is in season 4, but I can't watch the episodes as they air, or even stream them later because of school.
