I'd rather they stick closer to the comic (modern version, not the 70's incarnation Superman Returns veered towards).

Never liked Smallville, so I really hope they don't got that route.

Yikes. Well I'll try not to start another discussion on Indy, but I'll say I wasn't one of those hating the film. I loved the first half, went along for most of the ride but felt it fell flat by the end. It didn't seem like there was any emotional weight connected to the main plot (unlike Last crusade) and so the story started to "resolve" itself, I couldn't care less.

Funny I watched the first couple of seasons just because it was a Superman, occasionally it was really good, but a lot of the time it was repetitive. Season 5 onwards was fantastic because it really delved into the mythology, and as whodied already said Michael Rosenbaum has played the most engaging version of Lex Luthor because its only in this that you can actually witness the character's fall from grace and understand why he is the way he is

(Incidentally, there was a comic mini-series entitled Lex Luthor: Man of Steel - worth a read if you get the chance)

As for Superman Returns, one of the best things it did differently to the Donner movies was its Lex Luthor
Kevin Spacey is a fantastic actor just like Hackman, but at least Spacey got to show some real menace. I hated, that in the Donner movies, Lex Luthor was played for laughs more than anything else

I felt that Spacey's Luthor was only a tic off from Hackman's. I think he could have been a great Luthor, had they made the character more in the vein of the Comic or Animated series, but I thought he was more-or-less a continuation of what Hackman did.

Yes. I totally agree. She is the best Lois! I was frankly amazed that she was any good because initially when they brought her on she was just eye candy - and it was so blatant it rendered her inclusion redundant. But I have to say she and the show worked it's mojo on me. Michael Rosenbaum's Lex is very good also. He's had the time to develop it though - but he's taken it full on. Odd thing was I couldn't stand this show at the start. I gave up on it. Then a friend gave me Season 4,5 and 6!

Superman Returns was hugely disappointing. Never put a return in your title if your character hasn't been missed. I was shocked they took the relaitonship no further than a Dawon's Creek episode. Too much angst. Best thing about it was Kevin Spacey's (Lex's) girlfriend Parker Posey as Kitty Kowalski. She was hysterical! As for the scope and effects well... I think Smallville does better set pieces - Make a film of that!

Well at least we can all agree that Bosworth was a terrible Lois.

Terribly hot Lois? Cause seriously she was crazy hot in the movie. That was actually probably the best part of the movie to me. Which is strange because I don't think she's all that attractive in anything else she's done.

OK but as Lois Lane she really didn't hit the personality very well at all. So, yeah she was pretty bad at that.

For the record Lois wasn't married to Richard, her partner. Not that that makes much of a difference but I wouldnt have considered that scene to be Superman trying to seduce her in any way.

I confess, I didn't watch the whole movie, start to finish. I had in on in the other room, and wandered back and forth while it was on. Just figured she was married proper, and that the little kid wasn't such a bastard.

And as for the story of why he was gone for 5 yrs, I thought that was really lame. As I understood, astronomers "thought" they had found the remains of Krypton ? So many things wrong w/ that, where to start ? Don't his crystals have star charts and the like ? Shouldn't he have already known where Krypton was? I mean, his father not only knew of Earth, but about humans and enough to know what to tell his son he was not like them..... he knew were Earth was, so it's only logical he'd have left information as to where Krypton was, before its star exploded. And about that, if a near by star DOES explode, there's not going to be any thing left of a planet. At best, it'd be a large clump of charcol. What's left to see ?

And as for SEEING Krypton..... can't Superman just look up and focus? The guy's got x-ray vision.... can't he see better than the Hubble telescope ? Why the 5 YEAR journey to see if his old digs are still intact ?

Finally, as for the seduction scene..., a man takes a woman on a starlight viewing of the city from 2000 ft, with her arms around him and her standing , bare feet, I might add, on his ...... he's tryin' to get in her pants. Sorry, but there's no other way to say it. He said he needed to show her something, and she fell for that line. Oldest trick in the book.

As to the "gone 5 years" bit, there is a great deal of deleted footage that was supposed to explained that. Kal Pen's character had a subplot where he'd been, with Luthor's guidance, fabricating the evidence. They also shot the sequence where Supes finds the wreckage of the planet - a sequence that reportedly cost $11 million unto itself - but have never released it.
