I just noticed how damned close Kate Bosworth looks , as a brunette, to Rachel McAdams.

Never had a reaction quite like I have had with Singer's Superman.
When I watched it in the theater, I loved it. Bought it on dvd, couldn't even get through it.
I just don't care for it anymore. Probably the only movie I have ever seen that has had this effect on me.

Just got back from watching Superman Returns, and all I can say is...WOW.

Does it capture the spirit, and feel of the first two original Superman films?-YEs, and then some.

Is Kevin Spacey a better Lex Luthor than Gene Hackman?-Tough call, but I think so.

Is it the best Super Hero movie since the first 2 Supe films?-Yes

Will there be more Superman films from Bryan Singer?-I hope so.

If Most movies were half as good as this, I would be happy.

Oppyh...in all fairness, I think much of what you say is accurate. I just last night saw the '06 movie for the first time, on t.v. Early on in the film, I agree, that much of the feel and spirit of the 1st movie was captured. From the opening crdits to the destruction of Krypton, it was almost as if the movie had been remade, reimagined all over.

But somehow, after the story got rolling, they lost the feeling. Maybe it was the part where Superman tries to seduce Louis, knowing she's married woman? I'd have to see the movie again, before I could say for certain.

And while I'd put Spacey in the same acting level as Hackman, the story was a bit too outlandish for my taste. That Superman didn't testify was some how all the legal ammo Lex needed to get out of a double life sentence ? Whoa, that's worse D.A. work than we saw in O.J.'s double murder case!

I saw it on FX last night. I had the same reaction that I had in the theater. Poorly thought out film. The kid was the worst idea ever. The evil threat was incredibly weak "Oh no it's an island!!!". Superman overcoming kryptonite cause he just really wanted to is BS!! There wasn't really any decent action sequences. They really wanted the whole movie to revolve around the jacked up relationship between supes and lois. If that was going to be the point then don't have her married off already. What do they want us to root against the nice guy who's always been there for her?

For the record Lois wasn't married to Richard, her partner. Not that that makes much of a difference but I wouldnt have considered that scene to be Superman trying to seduce her in any way.

Personally I enjoyed it when I saw it at the cinema. Wasn't blown away but I was anxious to see it again. And I did when I bought the DVD

I may very well be in the minority here (I usually am) but I actually like it even more now. Its not a perfect movie in any sense of the word... but its pretty damn close. Yep, I said it
The only thing I dislike is Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, she's a good actress but she is way too young to be playign that character (actually I think I would have preferred Erica Durance from Smallvile - she's my favourite Lois so far, capturing the character perfectly)

I know some find it boring but honestly I actually find most action sequences boring, and I'm usually the one twiddling my thumbs waiting for it to end so we can get back to the story/characters
(for the record, I liked the recent Iron Man and Incredible Hulk, but the big fights at the end? yawn)
And thats probably why I enjoy this, because the emphasis is on Superman, the weight of responsibility on his shoulders and how his solidarity has polarised the one he cares about most.
Sure it could have been better, and Lex Luthor's big plan is pretty weak, but as a movie I think its vastly underrated

It had some good stuff, I thought Routhe was very good in the lead. But the whole thing wasn't very well thought out, and it was a little bit too much of a love-letter to Donner's film at the expense of being it's own thing.

I agree, and while Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey are both world class actors, I'll take Micheal Rosenbaum any day.

Lex in the movies always seems a bit over the top-- practically campy. But watching Smallville Lex slowly going insane? For years? Oh, yeah. That's how it should have been for Anakin Skywalker.

When they reboot Superman yet again, I'll hope they stay closer to the show, though I know they won't, for the "CW" stigma.
