Wonderfalls on DVD looking likely??

I never got to see Wonderfalls here in the UK (Sky are meant to be showing it but I don't know when or how many episodes they will show) but I'm glad that it's getting a DVD release *touch wood*. Hopefully, it's sales will go through the roof and prove that Fox are useless, incompetant morons. Again.

That's my "short" description. I'm sure other fans could probably add to that. Wonderfalls is definitely a more complex show than "Joan", so I'm sure other fans may have gotten other things out of it.

I've not seen Joan Of Arcadia, but the concept of it all sounds good

, as well as numerous good reviews by browncoats... I'll have a look and see if it'll come out in the UK.

Okay, veering totally off-topic here, but doesn't it seem like a bit of a waste of trees and money and mailroom/secretary/assistants' time to do this in the Information Age? Wouldn't it be better all around if companies like 20th who want to solicit fan feedback provide links on their web site to special paypal accounts to donate to worthy charities (possibly limiting each donation to a max of $5 or something to make ballet stuffing by a small number of rich folks a little harder)? That way, you save money on postcards and stamps and give a little boost to needy charities while voting for your favorite shows/movies/music/artists/actors/whatever...

Please help Haken keep this site running by occasionally clicking on some of the sponsored ad links on the side of the page!

Wonderfalls is a great show. I only saw 3 of the 4 episodes, likely due to fox moving it around so much or pre-empting for sports. But there was a quote that defined the sense of humour of the show and personally was a big "hook" for me. "I'm a puppet. The universe shoves it's hand up my @$$ and if I don't dance, bad things happen."

I will buy the Wonderfalls DVDs when they are released, even though I was less than impressed with the first episode. I thought they were trying just a bit too hard to be weird and quirky, but I warmed to the series by the fourth episode, which I thought was the best one. Unfortunately, it was also the last one aired.

This is just one of many other examples of personal taste. Humble did not like the lead actress, Caroline Dhavernas, yet I though she was the best part of the show.

Also, I like Joan of Arcadia too, but comparing these two shows is like trying to compare Firefly to Star Trek. The fact they are two SF shows is about the only thing they have in common, and with Joan and Wonderfalls it is just that the two leads have people and/or objects that talk to them. They are entirely different series otherwise, although both good, IMO.

I don't know about anyone else, but it's not important to me that I "like" a character in a TV show.
The character has to be compelling in some way. The character has to be intriguing, interesting.
Even if they're a weasel, a bitch, a psycho or a flat out motherfucker.
If the writing and acting and directing are good, if there's something different about the show that seperates it from the massive pile of poop that is most TV, if it makes me sit up and say "Huh!" (to quote Mal), then I'm on board.

Actually, the only thing I truly hate is if someone can't act. If they're there just for eyecandy it truly pisses me off.

I agree with you that the shows are very different in a lot of ways. However, I was just saying that the PREMISE for both shows (ie. two chicks hearing other-worldly voices and doing their bidding) is very similar. But you're right, the tone and attitude of the shows are very different. Like I said, Wonderfalls - FUNNY; Joan - not so much with the funny, but still a very well done show and worth watching. I also like them both. What I don't understand is how, on CBS, Joan is a smash hit, but on FOX (O pronounced like a short u), Wonderfalls only gets four episodes - never even has a chance to get into the seasonal arc - before it is stupidly cancelled.

I believe it has a lot to do with the promotion that each network devoted to the show. It also did not hurt Joan's chances that a lot of older viewers probably tuned in because of the great actors they got to play Joan's parents. That was my first attraction to the show.

True, while the acting on both shows was/is top-notch, the headliners on "Joan" (her parents) are much more widely known. Plus, Amber Tamblyn herself is really quite an actress for someone her age (she recenty won a Saturn award for best actress on a sci-fi tv series). And I'm really happy for Amber, being sort of a "Buffy" alum, that her show is doing so well. Except for Bill Sadler, I hadn't previously heard of any of the actors in Wonderfalls.

Unfortunately, we never really got to see what Caroline Dhavernas (sp?) could do. According to a recent Tim Minear interview, her acting in some of the later episodes would make our heads spin around (I'm paraphrasing). Hopefully, we'll get to see that on the dvds.

The folks at SaveWonderfalls.com have posted a new update about the show's arrival on DVD. Here's what they're saying today:

We have a bit of Wonderfalls DVD news for you! The release is still (tentatively) scheduled for December 7 of this year, and the episodes will be presented in 16x9 widescreen. Bryan Fuller and Todd Holland have already recorded commentary on "Crime Dog," "Lovesick Ass" and "Caged Bird." They'll be joined by stars Caroline Dhavernas and Katie Finneran for "Wax Lion" and "Safety Canary" commentary, and by Caroline, Katie and Scotch Ellis Loring (Dr. Ron) for "Cocktail Bunny" commentary. The disc set will also contain a documentary on the show and most likely a few deleted scenes and outtakes. Other features are TBA.

This sounds very, very good! Well, except for the aspect ratio, which actually intended to be widescreen for a few episodes, but others were framed with fullscreen in mind.

Also, we'll join in with the SaveWonderfalls crowd in emphasizing the word "tentatively" when it comes to that Dec. 7th date. Very-high-level sources at Fox inform us that this date might not end up being the correct one. So, if you're marking your calendars, make sure it's in pencil.

Our thanks to reader Stephen Ford for the heads-up. We'll have more word for you as soon as we can, so stay tuned!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.
