I have found that a number of really excellent story lines have come to a screeching halt as their authors have disappeared.
Horse, Foot and Artillery by Hotpoint is one.
Call me greedy, but I'd love to see these stories finished.
I hope that if for some reason I, myself had to stop writing my own fanfic, I'd at least try to tell people why. Not that I'm blaming anyone.

I don't think this pertains to me but my flashdrive decided to eat 20 pages (4 chapters) of Retribution that were new and a few others pieces I was working on. I hadn't had a chance to backup anything on my external or Mac, so that was the only copy. Needless to say I deemed the flashdrive a Reaver (this is not the first time I've had this happen. It also ate notes for my Comp Animation class), saved some documents and put the ReaverFlashdrive out of it's misery.
In the market for a new flashdrive.....

Life gets.. complicated. And busy.
I'm anxiously awaiting something, anything, by SpaceAnjl my ownself. (No pressure if you're reading this. See above.)
I've managed a whopping four pages in the last year, most of that in the last month. Pretty pathetic even for an amateur like myself. Again, see above.
I don't think my stuff has been missed overmuch, but I will offer a personal apology to anybody who actually writes to complain. (It's nice to get mail.)
I have learned to wait patiently, sometimes for years, for new work by my favorite published authors. Nobody can write fast enough to keep up with me. So I finish a book, pick up some knitting, do some laundry, reread some old books, tap my foot, look at the clock, break out in a cold sweat...
I must say, however, that as I am not a professional author under contractual obligation to provide entertainment to anyone else I do resent the implication that I or any of the other authors in BSR *owe* anyone else stories or notification that stories are not immediately forthcoming.
Nobody owes me anything, I don't get anything except personal satisfaction from having exorcised an idea from my limited brain storage space and maybe making someone else smile, and I don't feel I owe anyone else anything.
So far as the discussions I've seen on the topic we are almost all of us enthusiastic amateurs, doing something we enjoy in our spare time to amuse ourselves and possibly others.
If anyone is really that desperate for new fic they can try writing their own. It's what we all did.

Yep, we're all amateurs around here. I do it for the love of the 'Verse and have to fit it around real life and then sometimes the muse just drifts away for a while.
One of my favorites just returned, Jetflair finally got Mal out of the POW camp. I'll patiently wait for her to update again soon (no pressure here, Jetflair. You know how patient I am.)
I miss Spaceanjul and Mal4Prez too and Screwthealliance. Screw does have a unique pass though, he's finally a published author that has to write other things for a living.

Oops! I did an update on my fanfiction bio, but never posted it here. I've been writing! I've actually got 5 1/2 chapters more or less done, but I don't trust them yet. Too much story to come is not fully developed, so I want to reserve the right to make changes as I need to. Which means - no posting yet. I haven't even had it beta'd, except one chapter.
Much of this was done over my two week Christmas break (I love teaching!) but now school's on again. I'll have much of March free (love that teaching schedule again!) and I ought to be ready for posting by the end of that. Hopefully!
Anyway - I'm really wanting to get to the end of the Rabbit Hole with Homespun! Where's she got to?

I am sometimes in contact with HotPoint, the thing is he tried to start another fanfic, at fanfiction.net, and Twisting the Hellmouth,(the compelled story(A cross over between Angel and Buffy)where Illyria did not like how things ended in Angel season5, and somehow traveled backward in time, after she gathered financial knowledge(for about 3 years i think), and lottery nr´s. where she then travels back, and fixes some troubles, and then have them all go to Sunnydale, at the moment that Caleb is about to gorge out Xanders eye, and puts the hurt on Caleb(before xander is one eyed, and then the next day have them pick up the Scythe and introduces some more modern weaponry to the slayers. take a look at the link:
http://www.tthfanfic.org/AuthorStories-7284/Hotpoint.htm
they are all greath stories, but try and start with the compelled story:-)
p.s he has said he will return to the firefly stories too, just to many fanfics at the moment

Yeah, I talked to Hotpoint on another site a few months back and asked him about Horse, Foot, and Artillery. He said that he wasn't happy with how it turned out, and was probably going to abandon it (though, if I remember correctly, he did say he was considering doing a re-write).
