Football can frequently be rather boring I'll grant you but you can almost always count on the commentary crew to say wonderfully inane things like they think they mean something. Which can be a hoot and a half I tell ya. As for eating you have a bit of a point there as well. You need to cut through the initial leathery shell and then chew through a very rubbery layer before getting to the creamy air nougat.
