I'm not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but I just scanned around the forum and didn't see it. This is a synopsis of a very early draft of Serenity. This is the "200 page draft" that Joss refers to in the visual companion. There are a few major differences. Very interesting. Note that this is only a summary, but there is a link to an ebay auction where someone is selling the full copy.

Not 100% sure on the authenticity of it all, but I have no reason to doubt it.

There is a 190 page script by Joss Whedon for a 3 hour long Serenity movie at

A 190 page script roughly equals a 190 minute movie. This fat Serenity script needed liposuction to shrink it to 120 minutes, which is all the budget given to Joss Whedon by Universal Studios. Samples of dialog sucked out of the final movie:

BOOK - I don't know how much my vote counts, but I'm not interested in abandoning this girl.
JAYNE - That's 'cause you didn't get your goolies near tore off by her! For all I know, I been rendered incompetent!
ZOE - That's impotent.
WASH - Either's good for me...

Page 156:
Zoe looks at her screen, at the following ships.
WASH - They're never giving up, are they?
ZOE - That's the idea...
WASH - Honey, when Mal was your Sergeant in the war, did any... other members of you platoon, say... live?
ZOE - The answer will only make you unhappy.

Hehehe! I loved that incompetent/impotent exchange. My favorite scene cut from the 190-page script is on pages 91-93 where River speaks Mal's thoughts. He thinks about turning her in or even killing her to end the hunt, then when he finally speaks he asks her for help. That's so like him!
