I am 25, and I have been loving Firefly for approximately four years. I first saw the series on Fox (out of order, of course), and could not truly appreciate it because of that fact. Some time after the show was canceled, I decided to (I admit, illegally) download the series, and I loved it. If I could not illegally downloaded it, chances are I would have never bought the DVDs, seen the movie, watched it on Sci-Fi, listened to the podcasts, bought the merchandise, etc. The reasons I am currently in love with he series are...
1. I did not have to pay for the DVDs before I had an idea if I would enjoy the series or not.
2. I could see the series in the intended order.
3. I didn't have to wait a week or more between episodes.
I had a recommendation from a friend (Jeff Whittaker), so I clicked a few buttons and the next day I knew the true glory of Firefly. I have to say, that I truly believe that a quality show like Firely only benefits from illegal downloaders. Personally, I have converted at least four people to Browncoats, who have most likely converted a few of their own.

Well, it's very late (early) for me, so I didn't post as eloquently as I intended to. Those were not quite so much the reasons why I love the show, but the were more the reasons why downloading the show (perhaps not so legally) made me a fan that I probably would have never been otherwise. I think the main reason I posted this is because the person who suggested Firefly to me in the first place belittled me because the means I used to first truly enjoy Firefly did not directly support the Firefly 'Verse. However, in the long run it made a fan who supported the franchise when I would likely otherwise not even know of Firefly's true greatness. Wasn't is the maker of the Firefly RPG (I think it was Margaret Weiss) that first learned of Firefly through a bootlegged copy of the series? The Signal podcast, if I remember correctly, had that interview.
