I have no clue why some folk think retirement is boring- I'll be reading like a nut come time for ME to stop workin', when I'm like 90 or something

lol, i know what u mean. i guess reading just aint popular anymore. people see me reading and theyre like "whatcha readin for?" "just readin." "....u mean like...for fun?" "...yeah." "..........but why?" at that point i just give them a blank stare and go back to reading.

Yeah, it's lost on most folk these days...my Wife & I got our son to readin', he comes off a book all excited & such (like he was just when he finished the book of Prince Caspian- before we rented the movie)- it's a treat to behold in a child these days.

yeah ^_^ my mom got me into reading, same with my brother. people ask her how she got me to like reading so much (the whole "i cant even get my kids to read a page" thing) "well, i read to my kids since they were babies and they grew up loving it." best thing i think a parent can do for a kid.

I used to read all the time when I was a kid/teenager. I even took a book to work when I started so that I could read it at lunchtimes (that got some strange looks). That's now got me thinking of 'Time Enough At Last', what a classic TZ episode that was.
These days I haven't given up on reading but tend to go the audiobook route. Took some getting used to but now I find I can listen and do some other (minor) things as well. Currently working my way through Potter and Good Omens (again).
As for Prince Caspian I thought it was alright and definitely aimed more at the kids market. It looked great, some of the acting was a bit ropey, but some of it was good.
Kind of the same reaction I had with TLTHWATW.
I've never read the second book onwards but felt that the film could have explained more about why time has moved on and that each doorway takes them to a different time.
I have to disagree with you about Potter though Mr IsAll. I think the films are fantastic and very well done. Although they are a lot darker in tone these days than the Narnia films so maybe that explains the cold feeling a little?
I'm really looking forward to the next Potter one. I just can't decide whether to listen to the audiobook first or see the film first (on all the others I saw the film first).

well actually the lion the witch and the wardrobe *is* the second book in the series >< the magicians nephew was the first.
Time Enough At Last....is that the one where the dude is the librarian and they declare him obsolete because books are obsolete?
lolz, i still take books to classes XD hide em in my lap so the professors dont see (though when the class sizes start to get smaller thatll be a little hard) and i read between classes XD always get weird looks.

No.
Burgess Meredith (who wears huge lensed glasses) works in a bank and is always reading (even whilst he works) and tries to get others interested but no one wants to know. The bank manager is always on at him, his wife won't even let him read the paper and they generally try to run his life for him.
One lunch he goes into the bank vault just as a nuclear war (I think??) occurs. He is the only survivor and he finds the main library intact and is completely overcome with joy....just as he trips and breaks his glasses.

yup ^_^ a lot of people think TLTWATW is the first because The Magician's nephew has almost absolutely *nothing* to do with the complete rest of the series lol. except for the fact that the kid goes to Narnia like once in the entire book :P and brings back a seed from a tree, plants it in his backyard, and it becomes this world's one connection to Narnia, cuz i remember somethin about the tree swaying even when theres no wind, because its swaying to the wind in narnia. forget why he brought it back, think it had sumthin to do with his mother...*shrugs* havent read it since i was nine so i dont remember a lot from it. i should read those again......
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw that sucks. "yay! books! but i cant read them!" :'( twilight zone did always have a way of making an 'aw that sucks' ending to pretty much every episode lol

Book first, it'll most likely be vastly superior to the movie. The movies are okay, but don't even compare to the books. Hell, OOtP was the shortest movie, and yet the longest book...dunno what the logic was there.
And yeah, the movies are only gonna get darker in tone. Much darker.
