Hey Chrisisall,
Great choice, my son and I love that movie. It's been some time since I've seen it, but it nonetheless is a great movie. What a cast - from Sam Elliot's narrating, John Turturro wacky bowler, Steve Buscemi, John Goodman - well a virtual cornucopia of character actors. And one of the best dream sequences, next to a Clockwork Orange, in the movies.
How;s this for a wacky Coen Brothers choice - Raising Arizona (Turn to the right!,You never leave a man behind!)

Hey Shiny - looks like you and I may share some remarkbly similar tastes in cinema styles. I love Amelie. I saw it in the cinema, I bought the DVD and later when I met my girlfriend I bought it for her too. It is an amazing film. So much invention in every flickering frame it's incredible clearly made by a man who loves the cinematic medium. And again, what a cracking score! Great design, acting, dialogue and winsome script.
Have you seen his [Jean-Pierre Jeunet's] other work: Delicatessen, and CIty of the Lost Children?

I just love a good story and especially when it's told in an interesting way (Hence my love for Firefly).
Back in the 70's saw another French film called Going Places (Gerard Depardieu) great movie. Saw it not too long ago and it's still poignant.
I only saw a few minutes of Jean-Pierre's City of Lost Children but not Delicatessen. Those are on my list of films to see along with Krzysztof Kieslowski
Red, White and Blue Trilogy. Juliette Binoche - need I say more. Now that is a fine woman. The Unbearable Lightness of Being, another Binoche film, with Lena Olin and Daniel Day Lewis.
But I agree about the Amelie score as well. Fantastic, I also bought the soundtrack CD as well as the DVD. I too saw it in the cinema and fell in love with her as well. Jeunet also did A Very Long Engagement, 2004, but it wasn't as well received as Amelie, also with Audrey Tatou. Good movie.
Sorry I got carried away. As you probably guessed - I love movies.
