Fred - Great anecdote. Made me laugh. I kept hearing the Duke Boys theme tune and horn and a "Yeeeeeehaaaaw!!!"
If you did get in on film you'd want your voice over while it's happening because that was a funny recount! Great stuff!
I did pull up to some lights once and some fella in a zooped up Saxo revved me to race him at the turn of green. I nodded and when the lights turned I watched him peel off in a cloud of blue smoke....
...little else to do when you're in a '74 VW Beetle.... Oh well.![]()

Not entirely true...
You can fit a Porsche Carrera engine in a VW Beetle, and it's been done, although less often than cramming a V-8 into a Pinto.
Same basic result tho, a freakin death sled without the braking or handling to make driving it any kind of safe.
But that's never stopped Detroit from sellin ya the same thing when they could get away with it, like the infamous Ford Thunderbolt and even more infamous SuperBird.

It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it

my favourite is another Steve Mcqueen classic, the Motorbike Chase in the Great Escape.

Was a big fan of "Vanishing Point" for years.
My all time favorite is "Bullet."

I liked Transporter, but I'd like to mention The Man Who Knew Too Little - Bill Murray driving.

Bump.

lm-History/384697.htm
MAD MAX 2: THE ROAD WARRIOR - The tanker chase
THE FRENCH CONNECTION - Chasing the train
RONIN - The M5 versus the Peugeot 405
THE BLUES BROTHERS
BULLITT
I posted that list as it's the only one I find with the Road Warrior.
I've not seen Mad Max, Fury Road.
Vanishing Point, 1971, Barry Newman.
I mention it, 'cause the whole movie is chase scene, making it sort of pure.
1990 Short Time, Dabney Coleman in a suicidal (comic) car chase.
... oooOO}{OOooo ...
I've given up looking for the meaning of life. Now all I want is a cookie.
