But there are others that come darn close to these.
Out of curiousity does anyone here consider Never Say Never Again part of the canon or do you even like it, considering that it is a remake from another studio but it also Connery playing Bond?
Personally I don't consider it canon and would much sooner watch Thunderball (I generally ignore that it's out there).

Today, well,... it hasn't aged too well, aside from the cool title song, so actually, I place it in with some of the better Moore films like For Your Eyes Only in terms of quality.
And CANNON???? No sucha thing in the Bond series after Diamonds Are Forever, my friend. It's all wild & wooly various interpretations- and I'm okay with that.

The top two Bond Movies are, From Russia with Love. Sean Connery really defines the role of the hard edge Bond in this one.
Casino Royale (The recent version, not the David Niven Vehicle). Stays true to the start in Russia with Love.

I don't recall the score being particularly heinous but I haven't seen the film in a while and maybe with a couple decades of difference I'd notice it being disco? Or maybe it'd be OK 'cause Moore was the Disco Bond.

That's a fair and valid point, although I was thinking more in terms of movie canon than novel canon. As in the main set of movies we know that were made by Eon. Although I vaguely recall that the studio owning the franchise rights (United Artists??) has bought it so that it could be considered part of the 'team'.
I too liked Never Say Never Again when it came out, but I hadn't seen Thunderball at that point. I believe it was the first Bond I saw on the big screen as well. When I did see Thunderball it kind of tarnished my thoughts on NSNA and I've only watched it once since then. Strange how some things can do that.
I don't mind whether they stick to the novels or not (are there any stories left?) just as long as they make a good movie.

NSNA was just an eighties 007 band aid to hold us until Living Daylights, which in turn was just to hold us until the best Bond film since Thunderball, GOLDENEYE!!!

I'm quite torn on this. One of them I feel must be Goldfinger - the best Bond versus the best villain with the best sidekick with a brilliant plot - I have a theory that the Iraq war is pretty much a redo of the movie (the book is similar but has Goldfinger stealing the gold instead or at least trying to).
The second movie... hmm. I used to love Octopussy - it does have an excellent teaser (the plane going sideways through the hanger) and a larger role for Q who I adore. Licence to Kill was an interesting change of pace, GoldenEye gave us one of the best video games of all time... tricky, tricky.
I'm going to go with Casino Royale but with the foreknowledge that in a decade or so it may join the above as a movie that was of its time and thus will be diminished by the years. I did enjoy Quantum of Solace but would much prefer it if the director didn't push the edit button every 0.5 seconds during the action sequences.
