Pre-ordered it months ago. Hoping it might just show up in the mail today.

I pre-ordered it from Amazon several months ago (as soon as I could). Two months ago, they sent an email indicating they had canceled all those pre-orders because they weren't going to get them from that supplier. However, they also provided a new link to pre-order, so I did.

It shipped today: US$57.95 no tax, no shipping

Yeah, I got the same email (it was becuase the release date was changed - it was originally slated for next week). It was easy enough to shift the order over.

Going over to Amazon to buy it. I don't have a Blu-Ray player yet either. I'm hoping Santa will bring one, because I just got a HDTV last weekend.

I ordered it, but also don't have a Blue Ray player, and don't intend to get one. I just can't see enough difference between DVD (on a current player that will tweak the signal for a 1080 screen) and Blue Ray.

So this is just a contribution to the cause for me. Of course if I come across a potential convert who does have a Blue Ray player....

I understand where your coming from. Blu-Ray will never be as mainstream as standard dvd.
It's basically what Laserdisc was to VHS in the 80's, and most of the 90's.
It's a got a small fraction of the market as dvd. People love their dvd players and collections of dvd's. To be honest, I don't know anyone who feels they need to upgrade to Blu.

Standard dvd was groundbreaking, and that sort of leap will never happen again. But seeing films in glorious 1080 HD is a step beyond dvd. When you get that 3-D effect(when images actually seem to have depth) on a Blu-Ray film....it's something.

I think it depends on how much effort was put into the transfer (from original 35mm or digital to Blue Ray). I've seen lots of Blue Ray content, and a lot of it reminds me of the many halfassed transfers to DVD (which were not a lot beter than the VHS versions). Apparently it's more expensive to do a top notch transfer to Blue Ray, and even a lot of A List movies are just being tossed onto Blue Ray and touted as the Next-Big-Thing. Unless they make the effort to make it so, DVD is going to do a Betamax on Blue Ray.
