That's as lame as it comes friend. You sound like one of those pre-election Palin bashers of the so-called Conservative ilk, George Will and Bill Kristol. They betrayed their own Party because of their own over-inflated sense of self-worth & self-importance. They were "afraid" to lose, so they hedged their bets and joined the forces of Obama in the final days. Those were the most un-kindest cuts McCain and Palin had to endure. Worse than the bias of the the NY Times, and NBC et al, the Republicans who stayed home and didn't vote for McCain have earned themselves a scarlet letter for their self-rightous indignation.

John Kerry's concession speech was similar - he was very impressive, less so in the campaign. I guess that's the nature of the beast.

I think he'd have had the same problem Hillary would have had. They were both bound to lose early. Obama's star had risen too far, too high and too quickly for either to keep up honorably.
People are saying that the stock crash killed McCain's campaign because he'd risen in the polls the month before, but I don't buy it. It was just the Palin bubble that did that. And, like any speculative venture built on lies and empty promises, it was bound to crash, and I'm sure would have, just about the time of the bailout.
McCain only won his primary because the other Republicans SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED so badly (Dr. Paul excepted, but he was really a secret 3rd Party candidate and he also benefited greatly from the massive suckatude of the Giuliani's and Romny's of the world--how else do you explain the success of a total Fruit Loop like Huckabee?). Hillary was a far stronger contender than McCain, and Obama walked away with the Democratic nomination.
At least with Hillary, if she'd run a clean campaign, she could easily be moving into the White House next January as VP.

Yes, the repubican alternatives did suck very, very badly, leading to a McCain candidacy.
I think McCain made a necessary but ultimately fatal melding with the repubican machine.
Many of his campaign mis-steps look like purely Rovian moves. His campaign sought to energize 'the base', banking on the divisive religious right and the fear-mongering political right. If you've managed to panic much of the country and keep it in a state of fear and hate that gets you somewhere - after all, it (and dirty vote tricks) - got Bush into the WH a second time.
But if your branded fear and hate fade your 'base' is simply not enough people to win an election.
If McCain had been allowed to pick Lieberman and had been able to run his campaign without toadying to the religious right and without compromising his stands on the issues, he could have picked off much of the middle.
That's not to say Obama didn't run a brilliant campaign. Many, many people didn't 'connect' with him out of some level of racism. He could have lost their vote in any number of ways. That he didn't speaks well of his campaign.

Never said I didn't vote for him, I did, He just wasn't my choice. i'd have preferred Fred Thompson or Mitt Romney. See, unlike most Americans, i can deal w/ a candidate's religious views provided their GOVERNMENT views are sound. I wasn't in the least bit scared of Romeny's Morman faith, as it seemed to not interfere w/ how much he knew about economics and the world's markets.
Kinda like somethin' we'd all BENEFIT right about now, having a man like that in the White House, ya know ?
