Because FOX totally mishandled the series. They showed it out of order, did not promote it properly, moved it all over the schedule and put it on late at night. Then Joss and the Sci Fi channel could not come to any arrangement when he tried to move it there. Some days the karm wheel gets a flat tire.

Simply put, Fox fumbled the marketing and then were surprised when the fan base was slow to grow. Then when it became obvious that there was a fan base, they ignored it because they would look bad say "we screwed up". There is a bunch more, both real and fictional, but that is the heart of it.

yeah and Mal was naked as in the Adam and Eve type way...no shame...she was still naked as in the ...OMG I have no clothing on!!!!!!!!!!

Mal nekkid was one of the funniest scenes cause he played it so cool, like it wasn't botherin him a bit - sure wasn't botherin Kaylee, who if you look close actually takes a moment to unapologetically eye-grope him.
Him bein military and all, prolly didn't bug him TOO much, or Zoe, but Wash's reaction was friggin priceless...
